  • Hey all,

I was recently browsing the online bookshop over at Fr. Gruner's Fatima website (Fatima.org or Fatimashoppe.org) and found a text by the name of The Perestroika Deception.  It sounded rather curious, so I was interested to know what everyone here thinks of it?  How many of you have read this one?  What do you make of it?  Is this text worth a read?  etc.etc.

Also, I did a brief internet search of the author (Anatoliy Golitsyn) and came upon some other curious websites (TheFinalPhase.com), articles (Dispelling Disinformation by William Jasper), etc.etc.  What do you all make of the author (Anatoliy Golitsyn)?  Is he a reputable source?  Some information out there on the net is quite barmy, so please feel free to provide your analysation!

    Thanks,

    Pinoy Monk

  • Anatoliy Golitsyn was a  KGB spy who defected to the West in the early 60's and it was a subject of contention wither he was legit or a disinformation agent.

"The Perestroika Deception" is about his opinion that the USSR is trying to deceive the West by faking the fall of Communism.

Having been written about a decade ago, unless your truely knowledgeable of the issue, you will find it hard to bridge that period and truely asses if his suspicions where correct.

Today, the former Soviet empire as truely colapsed beyond repair.  Russia remains a power broker, increasing it's ties with China and emboldened by the fact U.S. power is distracted in Irak the way it is.  But all this is a far cry from a return to Communism and the resurrection of the USSR is impossible.

As long as they are being played out, Vandaler.  Check it out.

    Typical,

You think that events unfold according to how you "feel" they are rather then unfolding with their own logic. Sometimes, the illusion is only preserved by not looking to closely.

And you are typical, too, Vandaler.  When someone says this or that is going to happen well prior to it happening, and then it does happen, they are considered credible by thinking people.  Gorbachev said he is going to turn the whole world socialist.  Look around you.

Well that's a little bit more substantive, but not really what the thread is about.

This is about wither the changes in the Soviet Union are intentionally driven to be deceptive to what they really are.  Truth is, the last 10 years has been a chaotic journey towards market base economy, and regional tension along ethnic ligns... Nothing controlled or deliberate there.

  • All I say is that a turbulant decade has elapsed since the book has been written. Much of the event happened without Russia's or the former USSR control.   Thus I think the book could make an interesting read, but it's probably lost it's rellevancy now.

    Your perfectly free to disagree.

  • I'm not familiar enough with the book, and it's content to pursue this discussion.  As we do not seem to argue the same point, I'll respectfully leave it at that.
