  • In the rogation gospel, Christ speaks about eggs and scorpions.  And, this got me thinking about the scorpion.  I didn't know much about the scorpion, so I thought I would do some research and see if I could learn something useful.  Well, it turns out there is much to learn.  And, one thing in particular got my attention.  I read about how scorpions "dance" before mating.  The male scorpion grasps the female by the claws with his claws and performs a "back and forth" waltz.  This immediately reminded me of what hasidic Jєωs do at weddings(an occasion proximate to mating).  Here is a little preview.

     - safe funny clip of scorpion dancing with song -

     - good example, during the spin dancing, it looks as though one male clasps both wrists of the other -

    - There are a few instances of back and forth hands clasped dancing -

Unfortunately, I could not find the video that came to mind when I read of the scorpion mating dance.  Because, it clearly showed the hasidim going back in forth in a straight line with one "clearly" clasping both the others wrists.  It is very unusual, but in my opinion, worth noting in relation to the scorpion.  And, this dancing happens at "weddings".

  • Nadir - I am not an expert, and these are only short clips.  But, I don't think that the bride and groom dance together.  Women are truly despised in the hasidic communities.  I can recall a skvere rabbi saying that the husband should address his wife like this - "uhm you there" as opposed to addressing her by here name(so as to keep distance and avoid being "dragged into hell by her" = whatever that means)  And, I have seen them separate all by sexes and a big wall at weddings.  The men dance together and the females do likewise(that was what I saw).

Let the focus be the clasping of ones wrists by another, which Jєωs definately do.  And, scorpions do the same.

  • Nadir - from reading, traditions vary in hasidic communities.  Some have the bride dance with the groom/father/others, and some do not.  Sometimes she is completely veiled(blindfolded basically), and sometimes she is not.

And, I wish to leave my emphasis on the fact that you can find orthodox Jєωs doing a back and forth waltz/walk like dance where one of the men clasps both wrists of the other(in my opinion very unusual).  And, that is what scorpions do.  That can be found in videos; but there are many videos you might have to dig through.  I could not find the original video I saw that was an ideal show of it.  And, I don't want to watch enough to find it again.  I have seen it.
