  • AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, which may be a crucial thing in the state of this word.
What is the theological position on it?
I heard it in the news that new drones capable of individual thinking are being introduced.

  • AI is just a term, but not a precise term. Intelligence requires the faculties of an intellect. A device has no intellect. What you see in military drones is a complex device operating according to its programming. It does not think. The actions it takes only give the illusion of intelligence. It is the same as seeing a paper bag blown by the wind and thinking that the bag has intelligence. The actions taken by devices are the result of complex machines carrying out functions that activate other functions in other parts of the machine. Nowhere does the machine think. A computer cannot think, it is stuck in an endless reaction to the input from humans. Drones only react, nothing original comes from them.

  • Intelligence also requires being ABOVE the world of matter.

The fact that we humans can understand concepts (which are not material) proves that we're not just material.

It's one of the proofs of the immortality of the soul.

Respectfully, I would disagree.  Artificial Intelligence could be described in other words as derived decision-making.  A declassified example of this was demonstrated by the Tomahawk cruise missile during Operation Desert Storm.  The computer-guided navigation allows the missile to make in-flight decisions to reach the target.  I recall combat footage of an occurrence where the missile navigated through a window in the bunker to deliver its payload.

Artificial or not, intelligence is a decision making process.  Process, procedure, and experience makes good intelligence.  Artificially intelligent objects will always have limitations, but then again, so do naturally intelligent objects.  And yes, a UAS can self-navigate a prescribed route independent of the operator.

  • Another example might be an artificially intelligent computer worm.  A self replicating computer worm can exhibit very intelligent behavior in the execution of its objective.

  • Where is AI going?   "the Singularity"
    Quote
The technological singularity, or simply the singularity, is a hypothetical moment in time when artificial intelligence will have progressed to the point of a greater-than-human intelligence, radically changing civilization, and perhaps human nature.

The plan is  transhumanism - man merged with machine.  This has been in the works for decades.
    A chilling FAQ here:

Singularity - the Luciferian's coming out party, if that day ever comes to fruition. The world wide mind. Redefining of what it would be to be a 'human being.'

The heart and soul of who they are (Luciferians) and the ultimate end game of Naturalism...that is, the belief that they can live forever here on this earth in mockery to supernaturalism (forever in eternity with God).

One way to look at it as the convergence of different modern technologies including Genetics, Informational Processing, Robotics, and Nano-technology.
I apologize for not having any links to post. Especially, since this topic is not generally well known; and 'out-there.' It's 3:30 in the morning, I can't fall asleep and found this thread somewhat interesting, and hence a 'spontaneous' post.

At best, Transhumanism has been running beneath the base boards of human consciousness up until recently. Off the top of my head, there's not much Catholic writers that I have come across (since I last looked into this topic last year); mostly Scientists, Academia/Government, Protestants who fear this technology, and a Satanist describing this technology as not being benign, but 'evil.' Also for those who like conspiracy stuff; a big picture tie-in would be with Agenda 21 (my state had repealed one of it's 'agenda's, but probably meaningless...). Anyway, I doubt much interest in this topic (more specifically in a Catholic forum) and in a way, regrettably make this post except for the few who might have a passing interest.
