  • Kiera Wilmot got good grades and had a perfect behavior record. She wasn’t the kind of kid you’d expect to find hauled away in handcuffs and expelled from school, but that’s exactly what happened after an attempt at a science project went horribly wrong.
On 7 a.m. on Monday, the 16 year-old mixed some common household chemicals in a small 8 oz water bottle on the grounds of Bartow High School in Bartow, Florida. The reaction caused a small explosion that caused the top to pop up and produced some smoke. No one was hurt and no damage was caused.
According to WTSP, Wilmot told police that she was merely conducting a science experiment. Though her teachers knew nothing of the specific project, her principal seems to agree.

After the explosion Wilmot was taken into custody by a school resources officer and charged with possession/discharge of a weapon on school grounds and discharging a destructive device. She will be tried as an adult.
She was then taken to a juvenile assessment center. She was also expelled from school and will be forced to complete her diploma through an expulsion program.

  • Here, in 2005-06 school year, 15,602 students were expelled.  Now the number is so high they say they have nowhere to put everyone.

  • Don't we feel safer with cops in every school?  If kids are not BAD, they can't pay their mortgage.  Bad kids :  an lucrative business.

  • That is ridiculous.  My high school chemistry class was a dangerous place.  At least once a week somebody was exploding or burning something.  It was just part of it all.  My teacher never got unnerved or upset--quite the opposite.  She always remarked before labs that she expected at least one explosion from our class.

  • She won't get convicted.  Oliver Sacks will show-up to testify on her behalf, and she'll be acquitted:

Of course, it probably won't even make it to a trial phase.  It's all "for show".

  • It's absurd to expel someone just because they triggered a small explosion from a science project that didn't hurt anyone or cause any damage.

Government schools are nothing more than Freemasonic cesspools that strive to brainwash children into accepting socialism. I'd actually consider it to be a blessing to be expelled from one.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I did much worse growing-up.  My parents were divorced and lived in different towns.  My mother did not supervise me very much.  I had a strong interest in science after watching the PBS series Cosmos and after reading portions of Sagan's book.  Around age 14 I filled a 12-ounce coke bottle with gasoline and oil and ignited it while holding it in my hand.  I should be dead now, but my life was spared; the bottle did not explode but shattered.

  • She'll be forced to plea bargain to a lesser offense but will then have a record that will follow her throughout her life.

I hope some balzi lawyer steps up and defends her pro bono so that the controllers don't get away with this lunacy.

  • Probably not.  If anything, she will get a "deferred judgment" so that both sides can save face; after completing some worthless probation (on "science safety" or something like that), everything will be expunged.  Her and Oliver Sacks will become chums; he'll give her some money for college.
