  • Looks like a stunt. Do you see the faded star of david at the bottom?

Even without the star it's too obvious.

  • This is really dumb. Someone having a fit over two black guys in a Starbucks should not warrant a nationwide shutdown for "educating white people for their racism".

There's actual racism in the world, like the killing in Israel of Palestinians commanded by their head Hebe and the ultimate goal of Theodor Herzl - someone who thank goodness, only lived to be 44.

I stopped at the Starbucks in Winnetka (@ Sherman Way, San Fernando Valley) on Tuesday afternoon to find the drive-thru was open but the lobby was closed, sign on the door saying employee development day. There didn't seem to be anyone inside but for a couple baristas serving the drive thru. There are no back rooms at that location. But the parking lot had 32 cars parked, only 3 empty spaces. A friend told me perhaps the employees parked their cars and took a bus to some other location. It was funny to see several people in turn park their cars, and walk all the way up to the lobby doors and pull on the handle only to find the door was locked. Only then did they read the sign on the door, then in every case, the cell phone came out and they walked away staring at the phone and jabbing a finger at the screen. They had no idea how ridiculous they looked. ("My phone has all the answers for every question in life!")
    .
It would be fun to find out what was so important to take a whole day off. We'll have to ask baristas that we know and see what they have to say about it. Someone at Corporate dreamed up a scheme, probably a lawyer, and they might have made the attendees promise they wouldn't report the content of the presentation/training session.
    .
But according to the "news" it was a dedicated meeting to teach Starbucks employees how to cope with transients who loiter in the seating area of their stores. This has been a problem, since their policy has been to be welcoming to everyone, and not to discourage anyone from sitting down for a while or using the free WiFi. But in the past few months, they have been known to ask certain customers to either BUY something or else move along. In one case I heard about the customer was asked to produce a receipt to prove her drink was purchased at THAT LOCATION, because "You can't buy a beverage at another Starbucks and then come here to drink it. We have a problem providing seating for our own customers here." I haven't seen them physically remove anyone nor have they resorted to calling law enforcement or security guards in. Starbucks seems to be very worried about their image. They know a large share of their loyal customers are political liberals so giving the image of being openly friendly to all without discrimination is an appealing aspect of that image, but at the same time keeping the seating area free of objectionable characters is also desirable, so this is a challenge.
    .
Bottom line is, this business of closing all the stores on the same day must have been a deliberate move to get into the news and to start rumors going around the grapevine. Some kind of marketing scheme. If they wanted to train their employees, they could do it in phases, one region at a time. But they took one day for ALL THE STORES on the same day. So they must have been looking for media coverage for whatever reason. Free advertising?
    .
AND the day they chose was the day AFTER Memorial Day. What's up with that? Certainly a lot of their regular customers would be looking forward to a coffee to get free of the "holiday fog" from yesterday. So the drive-thru was open. All right then. I heard one rumor going around said this was "Try Dunkin Donuts Instead Day, and have better coffee for less money for a change. HAHAHA"

    Forbes

A sign in the window announces that Starbucks closes for racial bias training on May 29, 2018, in New York. - Starbucks is closing more than 8,000 stores across the United States Tuesday to conduct employee training on racial bias, a closely watched exercise that spotlights lingering problems of discrimination nationwide. (Photo by Bryan R. Smith/AFP/Getty Images)
    .
The big customer service and experience news for this week happened Tuesday, when Starbucks shut down 8,000 stores in North America to train approximately 175,000 employees about racial sensitivity.
    .
I recently wrote about the incident that happened in April and prompted this “emergency training.” Two African-American men were wrongly arrested, for the crime of nothing more than just sitting in a Starbucks. When the manager asked them to leave because they weren’t buying anything, they said that they were waiting for a colleague to arrive. Not satisfied by their explanation, the manager called the police and had them arrested, which began a PR crisis for the entire company.
    .
Starbucks responded quickly – one of the tenets of effective crisis management – with a sincere apology and a plan to respond to the incident, which included the closing of its stores for the training that happened this week.

    .

Howard Schultz, Starbucks’ Chairman, realizes that a four-hour training session on racial bias is not the final answer. But, it is a start – and a good start. In Schultz’s words: “We realize that four hours of training is not going to solve racial inequity… but we have to start the conversation.” The message is clear. Starbucks wants to be inclusive and create a safe environment for its customers regardless of race, religion, etc. It wants to be a part of its customers’ lives, and that can’t happen unless everyone feels comfortable and appreciated.
    .
The training is video-based. After watching videos, managers facilitate discussions around the topic. The plan is to have follow-up discussions and training on the topic. In other words, this is not “one and done.” It’s an ongoing effort to keep the topic at the forefront for employees.
    .

Comments from employees ran the gamut of “I’ve already known this” to “Nothing new” to “It definitely made a lot of people in my job who work with me understand better.” There will be different reactions based on upbringing, race, experience, and maturity. What’s happening is that Starbucks is making a major statement about its values. If you don’t like the values the company stands for, you won’t like working there – and probably wouldn’t last working there.
    .
In addition to the actual training, the employees were shown a docuмentary film on public racial discrimination, You’re Welcome, by award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson, which was commissioned by Starbucks, although the company didn’t have editorial input.
    .
Whether you think this training will be effective or not is not the point. There will be accolades from fans and criticism from naysayers. What is happening is that the sensitive topic of racial discrimination is being brought to the headlines and discussed at a level that is, unfortunately, unprecedented. I use the word “unfortunately” because it is a shame, first of all, that this type of incident even happens, and second, that it is not given the attention it deserves when it does happen to find solutions that could stop it from happening again. Bringing it to front-page headline news is good for the company, good for business in general, and good for humanity.
    .
Is it enough? Are four hours of training and some follow-up enough to change the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of 175,000 employees? The short answer is, “No,” which Howard Schultz has openly stated. But, the effect of the incident and Starbucks’ reaction to it has widespread impact.
    .
Other companies have seen the problems the incident has caused for Starbucks, and the smart ones are viewing it as a cautionary tale. Already there are companies that are planning to add training modules regarding racial sensitivity to their onboarding and ongoing training efforts. One company’s PR crisis, and its swift (and I believe sincere) response could end up creating positive changes for many companies, for America, and maybe even the rest of the world.

Don't forget to check The Washington Examiner
    .
Starbucks to close 8,000 US stores May 29 for racial bias education
    .

Protesters gather outside of a Starbucks in Philadelphia, Sunday, April 15, 2018, where two black men were arrested Thursday after employees called police to say the men were trespassing. The arrest prompted accusations of racism on social media. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson posted a lengthy statement Saturday night, calling the situation "disheartening" and that it led to a "reprehensible" outcome.
    (Michael Bryant/AP)
    .
(What this has to do with the Bureau of Land Management is anyone's guess!)
    .
Starbucks has announced it will close 8,000 U.S. stores for one day to conduct racial-bias education.
    .
The nationwide closing of the stores will be on May 29, and is the result of an incident at a Philadelphia store involving the arrest of two black men.
    .
"The training will be provided to nearly 175,000 partners (employees) across the country, and will become part of the onboarding process for new partners," Starbucks said in a statement. "The training will cover topics such as implicit bias and 'conscious inclusion.'"
    .
According to the coffee giant, the education will be “geared toward preventing discrimination in our stores.”
    .
Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities,” said Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson in a statement.
    .
Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson met privately with the two black men on Monday. They were arrested at a store in Philadelphia’s City Center district on April 12 after they asked to use the restroom.
    .
The incident has caused a string of protests, and some have even called for a boycott.
    .
Cellphone videos show the two men seated and being asked to leave by six Philadelphia police officers. They were arrested for trespassing, but no charges were filed.
    .
In a video message, Johnson said, “I will fix this.”
    .
Shutting down the stores will be costly, but Starbucks does make quite a bit of money. Starbucks-owned stores made roughly $4.7 billion in revenue in the most recent quarter, according to the company’s latest earnings report.
    .
    .
    I have a question:

If these had been two white men asking to use the restroom, do you suppose if the manager had called police to accuse them of trespassing it would have become a national "incident?"
    .
    And I have an observation:
My friend who experienced a Starbucks employee telling her she had to produce a receipt to prove her Starbucks coffee had been purchased there instead of at another Starbucks, thinks the employee had been given an order from Corporate in Seattle to demand the receipt! Corporate is believed to spot-check security monitors all over the country, and if they see a customer sitting at the same chair for a long time they might intervene (from 2,000 miles away) out of concern for their image. The employees don't mind telling customers who ask about the thermostat control, that Corporate in Seattle controls ALL the store temperatures by remote thermostat control, and the employees cannot change the temperature of their own stores, such as when the customers all say, "It's too cold in here." Maybe being cold is a Seattle thing.

    .
(Answer:  Only if the two white men had been ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖs.)

I'm curious how many people quit. If my job tried sensitivity training I would quit immediatly.
    .
What if you just treat everyone with bad behavior, period? You know....like the French do in Paris.
    .
Liberalism is a disease. I can't say that I'm sad to see Starbucks getting it.
    .
I am black woman and I find this hilarious!!!!
    .
The funny thing is that the sensitivity trainer is like any SJW ever they think everything that a white person says or any person who disagrees with them is racist or sexist they are destroying our society because they are little crybabies who want something that won’t work (socialism) or something they already have like equal rights.
    .
"That's the problem, Lisa. You don't think; you need to CARE."

    Gold.
    .
This was hilarious! The sad part is this is exactly what the world has come to. I’m black and it’s painful to see white folks apologizing for being white! No one knows what to say anymore without potentially offending someone or possibly everyone! We are who we are and no one person is responsible for the sins of their people, no matter what race! Thanks for posting this humorous take on the madness that has befallen our culture!

  • Customer service all over is lacking.  Most are rude , liberal, ignorant and lazy.

Star bucks is liberal hangout with over priced coffee.   Order ice tea and it is mostly ice.   Worse is Dirty Duncan donuts where the coffee is watered down and who knows what the foreigners are adding to the beverages.

Best to make your own coffee and ice tee.
May God bless you and keep you

  •

I am not spending a single dollar in Starbucks anymore.

If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.
