    .
A SCHOOL has cancelled Christmas - unless its students can successfully argue why they should celebrate the holiday.
    .
Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering will ‘ban’ cards, gifts and Christmas activities.
    .
In assembly this week, pupils were told (by no less than Father Christmas himself) about the real meaning of Christmas being “lost and buried under an avalanche of commercialisation”.
    .
Pupils now have until November 30 to write a persuasive argument to their RE teacher - emailed to ‘scrooge@ladylumleys.net’ - about why the school should celebrate the festival.
    .
The threatened ban hasn’t perhaps been taken in its intended spirit by absolutely everyone.
    .
Some parents of pupils at the school have taken to social media to express their anger at the threat. One said they were “fuming”, others described it as “horrible” and “disgusting”.
    .
But head teacher Richard Bramley said the ‘ban’ was about making students think deeply about what Christmas really is and what it’s about - particularly in a multi-faith society with a declining number of practicing Christians and where the festival is, for many people, increasingly about consumerism.
    .
“It’s about getting kids to take a step back,” he said. “And to get them thinking about the meaning of Christmas.”
    .
And in a blog on the school’s website, he said: “Christmas is a day celebrating the birth of Jesus and should be a time of good will to all, yet it can be a very stressful, expensive, argumentative and lonely time.
    .
“In her message to students in the assemblies [RE teacher] Mrs Paul asked them to consider the true meaning of Christmas and to write to her by November 30 at scrooge@ladylumleys.net with their reasons why we should still celebrate this time of year and try to persuade her to change her mind.”
    .
    .
    .
Would that be "a very stressful, expensive, argumentative and lonely time" for atheists, or for Christians?
Are they going to cancel Ramadan or Hannukah too? After all, they can be "a very stressful, expensive, argumentative and lonely time," especially if you're not a Mohammedan or a Jєω.

Remember last year, when various civil authorities prohibited the public display of manger scenes?
    .
I haven't seen any news articles about that this year, but perhaps that's because the media thinks it's old news, not interesting?
    .
If so, that means they're pushing the envelope.
    .
By raising the bar on what it takes for a scandal to be covered, it causes people at large to become desensitized to scandal.
    .
By putting this story online, Lady Lumley School opens itself to virtually inviting compositions from children worldwide!
    .

    .
    .
This would be a good project for homeschoolers, for pupils to write a persuasive argument to "Our RE teacher" and e-mail it to - scrooge@ladylumleys.net - about why the school should celebrate Christmas. (And ask why they're replacing Christmas with "the festival!")

  • Have them watch"Charlie Brown's Christmas".  Linus tells the world, "This is what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown".

    .
Not a bad idea. It's the administrators who need to watch it, and give a report on what they saw.
    .
Pupils have until Nov. 30th to submit their "persuasive argument" -- that's the day Rolling Stones tickets go on sale.

  • What moronic parents. It's obvious the school isn't going to keep the ban, it's just a lesson on materialism for the kids. They want to get the kids to empassionately write about the true meaning of Christmas and then they'll overturn it, making the kids feel good and feel like they've learned something about the holiday.

I mean the e-mail is literally "scrooge" for crying out loud, named after the man who never celebrated Christmas until he learned the true meaning. It's not even subtle, how are parents not understanding this?

Maybe the cranky woman with the SCROOGE e-mail address will hold a Christmas Tiny Tim turkey dinner for the whole school, after she gets woke by the students' responses. She could even invite the Mohammedan and Jєωιѕн students.
