Behavior during the Crusades was not always exemplary... Not that I'm comparing the two wars in terms of their ultimate purpose.

I bet a group of knights didn't do a "raid" on a home with 2 pregnant women and accidentally kill them with their swords, then try to make it look like they slipped and fell.

A) Swords as a weapon would make any killing much more "on purpose" and personal.
B) The cover-up adds additional malice
