I'm aware, to some degree, of war crimes committed by the allied forces during and after WWII. I assume the residential areas that were made into DP camps in the U.S. zone in Germany were created by forced eviction, although so far I haven't seen any first-hand accounts written by any of the evicted.

There was a DP camp in Geislingen. It seems that 3 areas of the city were used. These areas had very clear outlines - they seemed to be carved out quickly, and didn't seem to correspond to any kind of topographical, ethnic, religious, or otherwise distinguishable feature according to what was there before, as far as I can tell from what one of the residents who was there for 6 years has told me. This man said that the house he lived in was somewhat luxurious and fully furnished. It looked as though the occupants must have left with very little notice.

Does anyone happen to know anything about how these camps were formed? I would be interested in reading about people whose homes were taken, or some explanation of how the different areas of the city were chosen.

A DP camp is a camp for 'Displaced Persons' - a term that's mostly used to describe refugees who fled their home countries during WWII.
