A Christian college in Massachusetts will face questions from the local accreditation bureau after its president sought exemption from a new White House order banning discrimination on the basis of sɛҳuąƖ orientation.
D. Michael Lindsay, the president of Gordon College, has been asked by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges to explain the school’s policies to the accrediting board. Barbara Brittingham, the head of the board, said that public notice about Lindsay’s request for exemption had brought the issue to the group’s attention, and “the issues are complicated.”
Meanwhile the city of Salem, which has licensed Gordon College to manage the Old City Hall building, announced that the city’s contract with the Christian institution would be terminated immediately.
