  • Florida: Police Execute Two Unarmed People, Shoot Two of Their Own In Unhinged Rampage

    May 9th, 2014
    This is Florida Gold.
    Via: CBS:
On December 10, more than two dozen police officers from across Miami Dade County converged on a blue Volvo that had crashed in the backyard of a townhouse on 65th Street just off 27th Avenue.
As the car was wedged helplessly between a light pole and a tree, nearly a minute passed before officers opened up – firing approximately 50 bullets at the car and the two unarmed men inside the vehicle.
The two men inside the car survived that initial volley of gunfire, according to witnesses, who said they could see the men moving inside the Volvo. Everything went quiet for nearly two minutes before the officers opened up a second time – unleashing an unrelenting torrent of bullets that lasted almost 25 seconds. By the time it was over, the two men inside the car were dead.
CBS4 News has learned a total of 23 officers fired a total of at least 377 rounds.
Bullets were sprayed everywhere. They hit the Volvo, other cars in the lot, fence posts and neighboring businesses. They blasted holes in a townhouse where a 12-year-old dove to the ground for cover and a four month old slept in his crib.
“It was like the Wild Wild West, man, crazy,” said Anthony Vandiver, who barely made it through the back door of his home before the gunfire erupted. “Shooting just wild; shooting all over the place. Bullets could have come through the window. Anything could have happened man. They weren’t thinking, they weren’t thinking at all.”
Earlier that night, the driver of the Volvo, Adrian Montesano, robbed a Walgreens at gunpoint, and then later shot Miami Dade Police Officer Saul Rodriguez in a nearby trailer park.
Montesano escaped in the officer’s patrol car eventually dumping it at his grandmother’s house in Hialeah – before fleeing in her blue Volvo
By 5 am every cop in South Florida was looking for that blue Volvo – intent on catching the man who had shot one of their own.
But what police didn’t realize before they started shooting at the Volvo is there was a second man in the car – Corsini Valdes – who had committed no crime.
And in fact, as CBS4 News was the first to report, both men inside the Volvo were unarmed at the time police caught up with them. All of the gunfire came from police.
Montesano and Valdes were killed by the dozens of rounds that tore through their bodies.
But Montesano and Valdes weren’t the only ones struck – two Miami Dade police officers were hit as well – caught in the crossfire. One officer was shot in the arm and the second was hit in the arm and grazed in the head. If the bullet had struck just a half an inch to the side the officer would have been killed.
The sound of the gunfire was deafening – literally deafening. Two Miami police officers sustained ruptured ear drums from the cacophony of shots.
CBS4 News has spent the last five months piecing together the events of that evening and the hunt for the blue Volvo. CBS4 News reviewed radio transmissions, analyzed video taken during the shooting, interviewed officials from the different agencies involved, and reviewed records related to the officers who fired their weapons.
The nature of the shooting suggests the officers lost sight of their own training and that the officers, caught up in the heat of the moment, failed to listen to their radios or coordinate their actions endangering not only their own lives but the lives of the public.
It is worth saying, none of this would have happened if Adrian Montesano had not made the decision to rob the Walgreens and shoot a police officer. None of those officers would have been in that backyard if it weren’t for the actions of Montesano. But that does not absolve the officers of responsibility for their own conduct, as well.

None of this would have happened if the police had been trained to NOT get caught up in a groupthink passion-of-the-moment frenzy (which is after all our fallen human nature to do).

But it goes deeper.  Even if they were well trained to not get caught up in a firefight frenzy, the liberals in the judicial system who repeatedly take criminals who have been so involved in crime, and practically let them go with a slap on the wrist, evoke a frustration in the police.  What incentive do they have to seek justice by taking such an apparent criminal into custody, only to see him released later on?  That might not happen much when an officer is killed by the criminal, but a long history of the police being frustrated by liberals legislating from the bench eventually grinds down the good sense of policemen on duty.

Apparently poche meant to ask, "what if this had been a case of mistaken identity?"

  • Give the police a medal on this one.

I don't feel sorry for either man killed.

Obviously, the shooting started and when those officers were hit in the crossfire the impression at the moment was they were shot by the men in the blue car.

This is not so much what the police did wrong, this is more like "if you rob a Walgreens and kill a cop and steal his car then there might be consequences.'

I will give the cops a pass on this one.

It is all over but the lawsuits.

Advice for crossbro:  Never, and I mean never, drive a blue Volvo.  And in the rare case that you do drive one, don't get into a crash between a lamp post and a tree.  Just Don't.

    I have a blue chevy.

But better advice would be not to rob a walgreens and shoot down a cop and steal his car.

Then don't hit a lamp post while trying to flee.

In 1999 I was robbed at gunpoint too, I am greatful to say the cops also killed the "innocent" person who stuck a gun in my face too.

I know a drugstore up the street from me when I lived in sacramento that got robbed and they were even nice enough to rape the cashier before leaving

I have no empathy for them, why don't you neil go to the home of the cop who got shot and share your sentiments with that police officer's children ?

  • The investigation into the botched drug raid that left a baby critically injured is growing to include state and federal authorities.

“As a parent, I can’t imagine the horrible nightmare that this family is enduring,” said U.S. Attorney Sally Yates on Tuesday. “Federal and state authorities are coordinating to get to the bottom of what happened.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Tuesday that at the request of the district attorney it would investigate whether narcotics officers violated the law in executing a controversial “no-knock” search warrant last Wednesday.

Meanwhile civil rights advocates delivered a letter to Yates asking that federal authorities investigate whether the rights of 19-month-old Bounkham “Bou Bou” Phonesavanh and his family were violated in the highly aggressive search that yielded no drugs, no drug dealer and no weapons. It was unclear how active a role federal authorities would play.

“It is not unusual for the U.S. Attorney to conduct a simultaneous investigation in these type of cases,” said state Sen. Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta, who helped deliver the letter to Yates. “They did it in the Kathryn Johnston case.”

Three Atlanta police officers eventually went to federal prison for their role in the 2006 raid that left the 92-year-old Johnston dead when the officers were serving a no-knock warrant on her house. Authorities contended Johnston and Bou Bou were innocent victims but tragic accidents in the war on drugs.

Both cases prompted huge public uproar and backlash directed at the police and political fallout. In the Habersham case, the GBI’s announcement that District Attorney Brian Rickman had requested the agency determine if officers violated the law or were criminally negligent in the raid represented something of an about face for the prosecutor.

He told The Atlanta Journal Constitution on Monday that his office would investigate whether there was any criminal wrongdoing by law officers in how they handled the raid. Now, the GBI appears to be the lead agency.

“As tragedies goes, it is as awful as it comes,” he said of the child’s injuries, but suggested criminal negligence was a tough standard. “From what we look at, Did they have reasons to know there were children involved? Was there any criminal intent when the device was deployed?”

On Monday, Gov. Nathan Deal said he was confident Rickman would do a thorough investigation.

Rickman was not immediately available for comment Tuesday. His office said he was overseeing cases in drug court.

“Bou Bou” was injured when police tossed a flash-bang stun grenade into a home in Cornelia during a 3 a.m. raid, and it landed on his pillow in his playpen where he was sleeping. His three sisters and parents were sleeping the same room but were uninjured.

Police said an undercover agent bought drugs at the house the day before. No drugs or guns were found during the raid. The target of the raid, Wanis Thonetheva, was not there and was arrested later and only charged with drug possession, not sales, according to the sheriff’s office.

Lawyers for the Phonesavanhs also have asked for state and federal investigators, contending Habersham County sheriff’s deputies and Cornelia police officers were criminally negligent because they claimed not to know four children were in the house.

Family lawyer Mawuli Mel Davis said any competent investigation would have revealed the presence of the Phonesavanhs, who moved into home in April after their house burned in Wisconsin. Alecia Phonesavanh, the mother, said they discovered a “bad environment” in the home and had rented a U-Haul to leave last Thursday.

“We believe it is criminally negligent that you come into a home with four children and the person you are looking for isn’t even there, and the people who are there aren’t involved with drugs,” Davis said. “I don’t know what kind of surveillance they did but that can’t be the standard.”

  • This is normal police procedure. If you call the cops they will come and give you a beat down, shoot your dog and taze you for good measure. They will protect and serve the crap out of you!

Bottom line is police brutality isn't just a rare occurrence...it's a serious epidemic and most of the time these bad cops get off with just a paid vacation. If there were really good cops out there, they would turn in these bad cops.

  • A barefoot woman described as harmless was subdued and pummeled by a California Highway Patrol officer in an incident captured on video.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the incident, which occurred on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Video shot from a by-passing car shows the CHP officer chasing the woman on foot through traffic. In the video, the officer catches up to the woman from behind, spins her around and takes her to the ground. The pair struggled, but the officer ends up on top. From that position, he begins punching her rapidly in the head.

“He is beating her up, yo,” a man filming the incident is heard saying.

“Oh my gosh, why?” a woman asks.

As the officer is continuously punching the woman and grappling with her, another man rushes to help the officer subdue the woman. The CHP officer then handcuffs her.

“She took a left, and the cop, the CHP ran after her, grabbed her to try to subdue her, and then she you know, kind of tried to shove it off…Was she intoxicated? Was she mentally ill? Possibly,” David Diaz, one of the men who filmed the incident, told NBC Los Angeles.

“No one condones when he gets on top of a woman, and this is a big officer, and he punches her repeatedly,” Diaz said. “I think he punched her in the head 15 times.”

Another witness to the incident  told NBC Los Angeles that the woman “did not look well, mentally.” As the officer was punching her, “she looked terrified…she just looked gone.”

The witness said that the woman was not wearing shoes and was carrying several bags, indicating that she may have been homeless.

CHP said it was aware of the video and was investigating the incident.

“As a matter of policy, every time there is a use of force by our officers, there is a review conducted to determine whether the use of force was appropriate,” read a CHP statement, according to NBC Los Angeles. “That will be done in this case, however, since there is an ongoing investigation, it would be premature to comment on this specific video segment without reviewing the entire incident.”

CHP did not provide details of what happened to cause the officer to pursue the woman.
