No, the bill was intended to "to track and evaluate counterfactual narratives abroad that threaten the national security interests of the United States and United States allies," and to develop "procedures to expose and refute foreign misinformation and disinformation and proactively promote fact-based narratives and policies to audiences outside the United States."

So it's trying to stop the spread of fake news, of which some IS coming from foreign sources. He's not banning free speech (which he couldn't do - First Amendment) and some of the media is already federalized - it's called PBS. You need to dig deeper.

In 2008, if you had said there would be a Housing Collapse, you would have been marked as "fake news", being in contradiction with the MSM, which claimed that the housing/banking collapse "was contained".

You would have been correct -- but still would have been called Fake News at the time.

Ditto for many other situations in recent memory, including when Obamacare was still being discussed. If you had claimed you wouldn't get to keep your doctor, or that it would have been too expensive, etc. you would have been dismissed -- and absolutely correct!

Or in 2001, if you had said there WERE NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION IN IRAQ, you would have been brushed off as Fake News -- but you'd have been correct!

More often than not, it's the Mainstream Media that's the purveyor of Fake News.

Honestly, it seems to me that anyone who trusts the liberal mainstream media is almost beyond hope. Now with the internet it is possible to have access to alternative media who are more conservative, but who knows, they might be liars too. As Trump's victory showed, many millions of Americans do not trust the mainstream media anymore.

But it seems that the alternative media has its own fake news like the imminent economic collapse or hyperinflation which has been imminent ever since I have been using the internet (for at least fifteen years) or the news that gold is about to go up to 20,000 dollars an ounce, or the news that the government is about to go house to house confiscating all of our guns, or the news that the UN is about to take over the country and take away all of our rights. But overall I think the alternative media on the internet is more trustworthty than the mainstream media.
