(LifeSiteNews) — A South Carolina mom was arrested last week after she allegedly stabbed her two children more than 50 times with a knife, causing severe injuries and raising concerns that she was imitating Lindsay Clancy.
During the early morning hours of September 26, Taylor Gosnell, a 35-year-old mother, was charged with two counts of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing her 6-year-old and 3-year-old children more than 50 times, per local media. While both children are miraculously expected to make a full recovery, they each sustained severe injuries, with Gosnell’s 6-year-old son possibly requiring the amputation of his arm and fingers.
The gruesome crime is eerily similar to that of Massachusetts woman Lindsay Clancy, who admitted to brutally strangling her three children to death back in 2023: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan back in 2023.
“Between the two children, we’re estimating that there were approximately 50 stab wounds,” Graham McLellan of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said they found the children home alone after the 6-year-old boy called his grandmother telling her he was hungry. The children’s grandmother and an ex-boyfriend of Gosnell arrived at the scene before calling police, who described finding blood on televisions, mirrors destroyed, and shattered glass and other debris throughout the home.
Shortly after police arrived, Gosnell returned home and was promptly placed in an ambulance for a mental health evaluation, which she attempted to flee.
“There is no preparation that our deputies can have to see something like that,” he added.
Discussing the stab wounds on the children, the solicitor’s office added in bond court that “some of the lacerations were so deep they cut to the bone.”
Gosnell was denied bond Sunday.
Following the Clancy case’s media attention, there have been several other murders that may have been “copycat” crimes.
In August, a North Dakota mom was charged with murdering two of her young children — ages 5 months old and 3 years old — and attempting to kill her 1-year-old by slashing their throats with a knife.
Kailey Erhart allegedly chased her husband, Cameron, and mother-in-law out of the family home with a knife and locked them out before carrying out the gruesome murders in a bedroom.
Earlier this month in Illinois, Corie A. Walsh, a 40-year-old mother of four, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder after she allegedly killed a 2-year-old boy and was found trying to harm herself by police.READ: Lindsay Clancy copycat? 2-year-old boy dies in ‘domestic homicide’
