  • No surprise. From The Vigilant Citizen:

    Quote
I remember when video games were about getting Mario to save the princess and, when you were done, the console would leave you the heck alone. The new Xbox one apparently wants to put an end to those days by turning the beloved game console into a 24/7 surveillance device. The Xbox One will bundle the Kinect – a device that captures motion and sound - with every console and its camera and mic will be always on by default. In fact, Xbox One will actually refuse to work if the Kinect is not connected to it. So the camera and mic will work even when the console is turned off. And the camera will even work in the dark. Yup. It will also be able to read your facial expressions and count the people in the room with you (there are also talks of charging Pay-Per-View movies PER PERSON in the room).

Furthermore, all of this data captured by the device could easily be transmitted to who knows where as the console will require an internet connection to even function. This capability is rationalized because Microsoft wants to give users the ability of turning on the console by saying “Xbox On”. So, for this reason, the console needs to be listening to EVERY SINGLE word you’re saying around it in case you say “Xbox On”.

The unveiling of these capabilities no one asked for has lifted some eyebrows around the world.

Tim Vines, director at Civil Liberties Australia, told GamesFIX that Microsoft has a lot to answer for with a product that has the ability to listen and watch everything a person does.

“People should have the ability to turn off the camera or microphone, even if it limits the functionality of the machine,” he said. Vines believes privacy is “all about control”.

“Of course, if Microsoft doesn’t allow that (control), then people should vote with their wallets and skip the next Xbox.”

Vines says Microsoft should be upfront about what it does with data collected by Xbox One.

“Microsoft’s new Xbox meets the definition of a surveillance device under some Australian laws, so they need to be upfront and tell customers whether anyone else can intercept their information or remotely access their device,” Vines said.

According to Berlin’s federal data protection commissioner, Peter Schaar, the Xbox One is nothing more than a monitoring device under the guise of a gaming console.

“The Xbox One continuously records all sorts of personal information about me. My reaction rates, my learning or emotional states. These are then processed on an external server, and possibly even passed on to third parties. The fact that Microsoft could potentially spy on my living room is merely a twisted nightmare.”

Even if the Xbox One provides the option of turning off the camera and mic of the console, History shows that these options could easily be overridden remotely by any organization or creep with some technological capability. All of this ties in perfectly with my article entitled CIA Director: Web-Connected Devices in Your Home Make it Easy to Spy on You that quotes a CIA director openly stating that web connected devices are used to spy on citizens.

So, do I want to pay several hundred dollars to be constantly spied on?…Ummm…Let me think about it….mmmmNo.

  • Whatever happened to games like chess, Chinese checkers, dominoes, cards?  I now teach these to children for whom they are a novelty.  In turn, some of the parents become interested.  If you don't wish to spied upon, don't buy these devices, play with them, much less allow them in your home. Replace them with classic games or other activities.  See the atmosphere in your home improve.  Since I ditched all the junk-toys and games and banned the computer from my classroom, and taught the children all sorts of games from those above to outdoor games like hopscotch, jumping rope, double-dutch, tag, stoop ball, ring-a-leevy-o, Red Rover, Dare Base, leapfrog, recess is fun again.

  • Great minds think alike, fools seldom differ.

I jest! No, it is chilling. What I shall do when God willing I marry and have children I do not know - we really are going pell-mell into a Penal Times as exacting as the last, complete with pursuivants, informers and penal laws - for what are the 'politically correct' laws (propagated by Juda and Masonry) but penal laws, in that they impose harsh legal penalties on a Catholic for practicing the Faith. Quoted from myself: Imprisonment awaits you, at least in Great Britain, for expressing a tremendous range of reasonable and entirely true views or actions, along with blackballing - socially, yes, but also very probably economic ruin. If they set their face to destroy you, they can.

You cannot actually defend morality - that sodomy is evil, that the 'woman's movement' is evil, that fornication is evil et al - and keep out of a prison cell. I owe my liberty, I presume, to the fact that no-one blabs 'Patrick called our LGBT chums buggers and fαɢɢօts' or 'Patrick said the Jєωs milk the last war for all it's worth' or 'Patrick said Bishop Williamson was right!'. God save us all.

  • Has there been a law passed by the congresses and parliaments of the "free" world mandating a purchase of this product/service/tax?

No, but those who do buy it will be forced to use its "spying device" for the system to function properly.

  • That's nothing.

Cable and converter boxes have cameras.  Currently there are reports about how it's coming soon (predictive programming) but it's been in effect for a number of years, just not wholesale.  Check Techdirt (a 2009 artticle) and Electronic Frontier Foundation, to name just a few sources.

Your smartphone is / will be used the same way,  and computer cameras are regularly hijacked by hackers to watch you.

Keep in mind there are serious cuмulative health issues that arise from all this techology too.  Not coincidental.

Creepy and conspiratorial?  Yep.  And all true.  So much information available about these issues.

Just don't participate in this evil.  They've seduced eveyone with technology, now using it against humanity.

No fear.  Keep your eyes on the Cross.

  • A question for PerEvangelicaDicta!  How is it you say "don't participate" while participating by accessing and posting on the internet?  I'm just wondering where you draw the line.  Obviously, it is not total non-participation, or you wouldn't know about CI.

There's no way to completely avoid the nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr spying on you or opening a database on you. Even if you had no internet, no tv, no phone, or any other technology, they can still know your identity. They have drones and satellites that spy on us. No one can avoid it.

The internet can be used for good (such as posting on Trad forums). It can be used for bad, true, but as long as one uses it for good purposes, it's not wrong to use.
