Comment: So, publicly presenting oneself as a Catholic, being viewed by Catholics and non-Catholics alike as a member by the Church, professing the Creed at Mass, receiving the Sacraments daily, etc. – all of which applies to Francis – does not suffice for the “external manifestation” necessary to presume he is a member of the Church? I think Pius XII (and all sane Catholics) would disagree.

But since you no doubt mean the “profession of faith” is not being sufficiently “manifest” in Francis case, I would note that the CAUSE of membership in the Church baptism. Baptism is the CAUSE that produces the EFFECT of making a person a member of the Church. The “profession of the same faith” is one of the CONDITIONS for membership; it is one of the social bonds of unity.

A baptized Catholic only ceases to be a member of the Church if one or more of the conditions are ruptured in a manner that is incompatible with the social bond of ecclesiastical unity, and the only thing that destroys the condition of “profession of the faith” to this extent is notorious heresy. Holding an erroneous or even heretical doctrine does not sever the social bond and cause of loss of membership in the Church, UNLESS THE HERESY IS NOTORIOUS. The renowned Louis Cardinal Billot, S.J., explains all this with precision and depth in his celebrated book, De Ecclesia Christi:

So, if your position is that “Francis is not a Catholic” because you personally believe he has CEASED to be a member of the Church by breaking the CONDITION of “profession of the same faith,” the burden of proof is on YOU to demonstrate that he is notorious heretic, since only notorious heresy impedes the EFFECT produced by baptism to the extent necessary to bring about the loss of membership in the Church.

Furthermore, applying a little good old-fashioned common sense to your “presumption of guilt” theory shows that is absurd, since it would mean each Catholic would have to determine for himself if another professing Catholic’s “membership in the Church” had been “externally manifest” before he could accept him as a member of the Church. The result would be that each Catholic would have a “church” of his own, consisting only of those “members” whom he had personally examined and approved, and NECESSARILY (due to the presumption of guilt) excluding all others.

And to assert that Catholics should NOT PRESUME that the man elected pope during a conclave “is a Catholic,” until each one personally judges that his Catholicity has been “made evident in an external, observable way” is LUDICROUS, and destructive to the very foundations of the faith. Not only is it a complete novelty (the most evident mark of heresy), but how would Catholics who lived before the invention of the modern means of communication and travel ever do such a thing?

According to your idiotic theory, millions of Catholic peasants – most of whom couldn’t even read – would have to traveling thousands of miles on their donkey (along with their 12 kids and pregnant wife) to personal examine the pope’s orthodoxy before accepting him as pope. And they would have to repeat the fact-finding journey each time a new “pope” was elected (!) before they could submit to his as pope, which is necessary for salvation! See any problem with that?

And if the presumption of guilt apples to the current pope, it would logically apply to the previous popes as well. This would mean each Catholic – including those in the past who couldn’t read – would have to study every papal claimant in order to determine, to their own personal satisfaction, whether or not he sufficiently “manifest” his Catholicism before accepting his papacy – and before accepting any “dogmas” he defined or “council” he ratified!

All I can say is that the Editor of the Catholic Inquisitor ought to be happy he doesn’t live at a time when real Inquisitors walked the streets; for by spreading such an absurd doctrine in those days, he may very well have found himself in the public square, tied to a stake atop a pile of sticks. And this article made the front page, top of the fold?

I'm sorry to have to withdraw my previous comments.  I honestly don't know whether Dr. Peter Chojnowski is a sede or not, although at the time of making my previous comment I honestly felt very confident that I did know based on a communication from a very reliable source.  Unfortunately, the docuмentation that I had requested from that source has not been readily forthcoming as I thought it would be and I now have reason to believe that it will not be forthcoming.  As for my own part, I have not been able to independently verify what the source had communicated to me concerning Dr. Chojnowski.

Is there really a demand for a third major R&R-type periodical in addition to The Remnant and Catholic Family News?  

Or is this more a Conservative Novus Ordo publication similiar to The Wanderer or National Catholic Register?

Thirty years ago The Wanderer was worth reading.
Twenty years ago The Remnant was worth reading.
Ten years ago Catholic Family News was worth reading.
One by one they went down that slippery slope to being "conservative" or "tradition-lite", we'll have to wait and see how The Catholic Inquisitor turns out.

Both of the people mentioned, Cornelia Ferreira and Peter Chojnowski have an extensive online presence.  

That's why I asked what she planned to do, there really is no need to wait to form an opinion of the quality of their writings.

I've posted this video several times. It's worth posting again. If you are wondering what kind of publication this will be, this is telling. All the comments and speculations won't give you any insight unless you hear it from Verrechio himself regarding his position. He came just came out criticizing all the R and R bishops not long ago. He makes some good points halfway through the video.

In follow up to yesterday’s post concerning comments, as promised, here I will restate my opinion concerning sedevacantism. Bear in mind that it will be necessary to address this topic in general terms even though individuals who consider themselves sedevacantist may have varying beliefs, as well as ones that go much deeper than I will.

I use the word “restate” here deliberately. Every point that I will raise in this post has been addressed at length in numerous other posts over the past year or more.
First, let me say that as far as individual sedevacantists are concerned (and I have had personal conversations with many), I am rather sympathetic. It seems evident to me that they genuinely love Christ and His Church and are simply doing their level best to make sense of this terrible crisis.

I admire their passion and their willingness to state their case without calculation as to how much popularity (or money) may be gained or lost in the process. On this point, any number of self-identified “traditionalist” apostolates could learn a valuable lesson.

Where the rubber meets the road in this discussion (again, generally speaking) lies in the following question:

Are individual members of the Church competent to recognize when a given claimant to the Chair of St. Peter has fallen into formal heresy and is thus an anti-pope?
The short answer, in my view, is yes.

My disagreement with sedevacantism mainly concerns the notion that this applies to each of the post-conciliar popes, even though one can attribute any number of heresies to them.

Now let’s talk about Francis.

Setting aside entirely valid questions (which I’ve addressed many times in this space) about the so-called resignation of Benedict XVI, its validity, and thus the validity of the conclave that followed, Francis is utterly unique with respect to the faithful’s ability to recognize him as a formal, notorious, pertinacious heretic.
There is no question in my mind whatsoever that he is precisely this – a formal, notorious, pertinacious heretic; a man who has severed his relationship with the Mystical Body of Christ – and such a one simply cannot be the head of said Body.

The uniqueness of Francis among the post-conciliar claimants to the papacy lies not so much in the plainness of his heresies and the unprecedented boldness with which he promotes them, but rather in the way in which he has been formally warned, admonished, and corrected.

He is the perfect example of a man – according to no less authority than Sacred Scripture – who “is condemned by his own judgment” and the faithful must “avoid” (see Titus 3:10-11), who “will not hear the Church” and therefore is to be to us as “the heathen and publican” (see Mt. 18:17), and who is “anathema” (see Gal. 1:8).
While the sedevacantist may argue that these verses apply to all of the post-conciliar popes, not one of them in my view was publicly, solemnly and formally warned, admonished and corrected in a manner sufficient to condemn themselves as formal, notorious, pertinacious heretics.

On this note, I find the commentary of the eminent 18th century theologian, Fr. Pietro Ballerini, very useful. The following quote is lengthy, but most worthy of consideration.
Is it not true that, confronted with such a danger to the faith [a Pope teaching heresy], any subject can, by fraternal correction, warn their superior, resist him to his face, refute him and, if necessary, summon him and press him to repent? The Cardinals, who are his counselors, can do this; or the Roman Clergy, or the Roman Synod, if, being met, they judge this opportune. For any person, even a private person, the words of Saint Paul to Titus hold: ‘Avoid the heretic, after a first and second correction, knowing that such a man is perverted and sins, since he is condemned by his own judgment’ (Tit. 3, 10-11).

For the person, who, admonished once or twice, does not repent, but continues pertinacious in an opinion contrary to a manifest or defined dogma – not being able, on account of this public pertinacity to be excused, by any means, of heresy properly so called, which requires pertinacity – this person declares himself openly a heretic. He reveals that by his own will he has turned away from the Catholic Faith and the Church, in such a way that now no declaration or sentence of anyone whatsoever is necessary to cut him from the body of the Church. Therefore the Pontiff who after such a solemn and public warning by the Cardinals, by the Roman Clergy or even by the Synod, would remain himself hardened in heresy and openly turn himself away from the Church, would have to be avoided, according to the precept of Saint Paul.
So that he might not cause damage to the rest, he would have to have his heresy and contumacy publicly proclaimed, so that all might be able to be equally on guard in relation to him. Thus, the sentence which he had pronounced against himself would be made known to all the Church, making clear that by his own will he had turned away and separated himself from the body of the Church, and that in a certain way he had abdicated the Pontificate…

At this, I will invite readers to read (or reread as the case may be) two of my exchanges with Robert Siscoe (HERE (https://akacatholic.com/point-counterpoint-2-verrecchio/) and HERE (https://akacatholic.com/point-counterpoint-3-verrecchio/)) wherein I make the case that Ballerini’s treatment of Titus 3:10-11 applies directly (and uniquely) to Francis, and furthermore, an individual lay member of the Church has not only the ability to recognize him as a formal heretic, but the duty to say so publicly.

The third paragraph in Fr. Ballerini’s treatment puts my public statements on the matter of Francis as anti-pope in perspective.
As I’ve stated any number of times, my “declaration” on this blog concerning Francis is only my personal, albeit well-informed (if I may say so), opinion. Feel free to take it or leave it, but follow him at your own risk.

It is now up to the so-called “proper authorities” to issue a formal declaration making this “known to all the Church” for precisely the reason given by Fr. Ballerini – “so that he might not cause damage to the rest” – and to go about making arrangements for a conclave to elect a new pope.
Even if the cardinals and bishops (or a portion thereof) never get around to doing their duty, the plain observable fact that Francis has already condemned himself and has separated himself from the Body of the Church remains unchanged, and there is no reason for those with eyes to see to pretend otherwise.
At this, I hope I’ve made it clear where I stand. As I mentioned, there are any number of posts on this blog going into greater detail on each of the points made above. Feel free to comment there (minus the soapbox!) if you wish. Readers will be alerted to recent comments on the sidebar.

Louie says at the end of the post above that he hopes that he has made his stand clear. But no where in the piece does he say that he's a sedevacantist (though maybe I missed it). Why not just say it? Same with that guy named Chojnowski.

But based on  all that I have read on Louie's blog, he believes Pope France and those before where valid Popes, but then when Pope Francis refused to answer the Dubia, he (Francis) then became a formal manifest heretic and thus lost the office of Pope. He also entertains the idea the Benedict XVI is still the Pope and thus Francis may have never been Pope. (Theory of Fr. Gruner and Fr. Kramer). Same goes with Dr. Chojnowski, he is not a sedevacantist yet, but appears to be in the process of trying to discern if Pope Francis is or is not a member of the Catholic Church, thus he post articles or letters from Fr. Kramer, Fr. Chazal, Fr. Scott, and others with various positions and theories.

Often, those of us who work in so-called “traditionalist” (aka Catholic) media are accused of simply preaching to the choir; getting the base riled up over a crisis they already recognize while providing very little in the way of content that will serve to attract those outside the fold.

Over the years, I’ve received many notes of thanks, some even from priests, who once held a neo-conservative view of the Church, but now thanks to our efforts here have come to embrace tradition. Even so, there is a dash of truth to this criticism.

Ultimately, it is the Lord who opens the eyes of the blind, but He often does so by using sinners like us as instruments of His grace.

To the extent that neo-conservatism is comprised of sincere individuals who genuinely want to follow Christ but have been hoodwinked into accepting both the Council and the Novus Ordo as authentically and thoroughly Catholic, this is prime mission territory for traditionalists.

I consider finding a way to engage this audience one of my biggest challenges. It’s tough!

It is my hope and prayer that The Catholic Inquisitor (https://inquisitorpress.com/)  will somehow make headway in meeting this challenge more effectively that this blog does, at the very least, by providing traditional readers with something of value to that can be handed to conservative friends and family members.

Thanks to the train wreck known as “Francis,” the time, and the harvest, has perhaps never been riper. Even so, this crowd remains an incredibly tough nut to crack as denial runs very deep within it.

Consider, for example, a well-educated, intelligent, and by all indications genuinely sincere conservative Catholic who holds to the following:
– Francis manipulated the Synods on the family
– With Amoris Laetitia, he isn’t simply being imprudent in the expressions that he employs; rather, it is a deliberate effort to create confusion
– At stake is not just discipline or pastoral practice, but rather the Church’s perennial teachings
– In short, Francis is actively engaged in a deliberate effort to change what the Church teaches
In spite of these opinions (with which one is hard pressed to disagree), this same individual insists that even though Francis is deliberately trying to change the Church’s perennial teachings (i.e., the Universal Ordinary Magisterium of the Church, which is infallible), he isn’t preaching heresy! In fact, the man is unquestionably Catholic!
Unfortunately, even though this scenario is almost too ridiculous to believe, it isn’t just a hypothetical case – these are the near verbatim opinions of Phil Lawler, author of the book, Lost Shepherd: How Pope Francis is misleading his flock.
For the first four years of the “so-called pontificate of Francis” (to quote dear Fr. Gruner yet again – who, by the way, even after having died more than three years ago, still doesn’t have a headstone as of a few weeks ago!), Mr. Lawler tried his level best to defend the man.

Eventually, according to Lawler:
I could no longer pretend that Pope Francis is merely offering a novel interpretation of Catholic doctrine. No; it is more than that. He is engaged in a deliberate effort to change what the Church teaches.

That was in March of 2017 – before the Filial Correction which has since been ignored; before Francis ordered the guidelines for interpreting Amoris Laetitia crafted by the Bishops of Buenos to be enshrined in the AAS; before yet another fourteen months had passed without a formal answer to the dubia...
And yet, he still insists that Francis is not only a Catholic in good standing; he is the pope!

Future generations will likely find all of this so hard to believe as to be amusing, but diabolical disorientation is no laughing matter; it’s… well, diabolical.
Bottom line, please pray and fast – both for this blog and for The Catholic Inquisitor (https://inquisitorpress.com/).

The harvest is great, the laborers are few, and though the neo-conservative fruits are growing riper by the day thanks to the Bergoglian menace, there are no easy pickins.

Can anybody tell me exactly where he is buried?  The name of the cemetery (or is it on a private plot of land) with the exact address if possible.

Also, why in the world after all this time is there no headstone?  Has the Fatima Center or anyone related to same made any public assertions on the matter?

In answer to my inquiry, I just received the following email message from Fr. Paul Kramer: "Fr Gruner's grave is at the St. Michael Cemetary in Fort Erie. His headstone was installed at the grave only a few days ago. ' 

Upon receiving the above communication I went to the below linked website where I was able to pull up the name Nicholas Gruner.  What I found I have pasted here:

The Management Team of the Fatima Center sadly announces the death of Father Nicholas Gruner, who passed away suddenly this evening. Father died at his office, working to his last breath on the goals to which he dedicated his 38 years in the priesthood — the promotion of the Message of Fatima, especially the release of the full Third Secret and the Consecration of Russia to Our Lady's Immaculate Heart.

Details concerning the wake/visitation and funeral for Father will be announced in the upcoming days. For now, in your charity, please pray for Father and for his Apostolate, which will continue to seek to bring his life's work to a successful conclusion.

GRUNER, Father Nicholas Nightingale - Passed away suddenly on April 29, 2015 at his office in Fort Erie, Ontario. He was the beloved son of the late Malcolm and Jessie (Mullally), the dear brother of the late Michael (Violet), the late Peter (gαy), the late Christopher (Ruth), the late Anthony (Wendy), Cecilia (Richard), and Jennifer (John), and the cherished uncle to 16 nieces and nephews and 27 grand nieces and nephews.

Father was born on May 4, 1942 in Montreal, Quebec. He graduated from McGill University with a degree in Commerce and earned post-graduate degrees in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (The Angelicuм) in Rome. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in Avellino, Italy on August 22, 1976 and, in 1978, launched The Fatima Crusader - a magazine dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima. Over the next 37 years, he and his apostolate, The Fatima Center, promoted the complete Fatima message worldwide through books and other literature, conferences, Rosary rallies, television programs, websites, and the distribution of millions of Rosaries and scapulars. He worked to his last breath to try to convince the Holy Father to release the entire Third Secret of Fatima and to consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Father was a kind-hearted person with a warm laugh, who will be greatly missed by his family, the staff of the Fatima Center, and the countless souls all over the world whom he touched and whose faith he helped deepen.

On July 13, 1917, the young Fatima visionary Lucia dos Santos asked Our Lady to “work a miracle so that everybody will believe that you are appearing to us.”
Yesterday marked the 100th anniversary to the day of Our Lady’s response; the great Miracle of the Sun – a supernatural event that caused many, though not all, to believe.
In more recent decades, no one labored more diligently to make certain that all may come to believe that the Mother of Our Lord truly appeared at Fatima than one Father Nicholas Gruner. Likewise, no one did more than he – the Fatima priest – to remind the world of her messages, her warnings, and her requests.
The Devil, for his part, wants nothing more than for us to forget, and on this note, we must admit that he is having some success.
Every time the truth about Fatima is interspersed with poisonous lies by influential men, something that happens far-too-often, surely the hand of the Master Deceiver is at work.
As I write, nearly two-and-a-half years have passed since Our Lord called Fr. Gruner home, and the Devil, for his part, wants nothing more than for us to forget him.
In early September, Fr. Paul Kramer posted on his Facebook page the photo below, taken on 28 August 2017, of the burial site of a person all-but-forgotten; marked only by three small statues put in place by heartbroken friends of the anonymous deceased.

Though some of you will find it difficult to believe, this is the place where the earthly remains of Fr. Nicholas Gruner – the man who labored day and night in service to Our Lady for decades on end – were laid to rest well over two years ago.
Until now, I have held my peace on this scandalous story. Word had it at the time of Fr. Kramer’s post that a headstone had already been ordered and was on its way, and I had hoped that the situation would be resolved in short order.
Also, given that we have no idea why this great man to whom so many owe a debt of gratitude is interred in an anonymous grave; without even so much as a simple in-ground marker, my concern was, and still is, that some readers, though justifiably outraged, may presume to lay blame on the innocent. Please keep this in mind.
That having been said, six more weeks have since passed.
“Let care be bestowed upon funerals and the erection of monuments; for Holy Writ reckons these among good works.” – St. Augustine
Yesterday, I received the photo below; taken by someone who wished, on the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, to pray at the gravesite of the Fatima Priest – to recall and to pay tribute to him, and to beg the aid of Our Lady in this late hour.
As you can see, nothing has changed. Well, almost nothing…

Notice the condition of the statues of Our Lord and Our Lady; in particular the latter, even though the “generic” angel statue remains unblemished. It is unclear what the black soot-like substance is, exactly when it showed up, and how it got there.
Even so, we can be certain that the same Devil who desires that Fr. Gruner and his life’s work be forgotten, is delighted to see the faces of those statues, so lovingly placed by his faithful friends, soiled in such a way.
“The only reason why the name Memorials or Monuments is given to those sepulchres of the dead which become specially distinguished, is that they recall to memory, and by putting in mind cause us to think of, them who by death are withdrawn from the eyes of the living, that they may not by forgetfulness be also withdrawn from men’s hearts.” – St. Augustine
May it please Our Lord and His Blessed Mother to hasten the day when Fr. Gruner’s gravesite will at long last reflect the dignity of the man whose remains are there interred; that he may never by forgetfulness be withdrawn from our hearts.

Better late than never… Such was the message that I received from a close personal friend of Fr. Nicholas Gruner, along with the photo above showing the gravestone that had just been put in place to mark the resting place of “the Fatima priest’s” earthly remains.
Indeed, I think we can all agree that this headstone stands as a fitting monument to Father’s life’s work of promoting the full message of Fatima to save souls and achieve world peace.

And yet, we must also admit that we risk seeing this mission, once carried out so well by Fr. Gruner, becoming more a thing of the past to be remembered rather than being treated as it should be – namely, as an imperative for those of us alive today.

Much has taken place in the three years since Fr. Gruner died; e.g., the conclusion to the rigged Synods on the family, publication of the heresy laden text Amoris Laetitia, issuance of the now infamous dubia, the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s appearance at Fatima…

These are the kinds of things that would have happened even if Father had not been mercifully called from this life. More noteworthy still, however, are those things that arguably would not have happened had Father remained here to continue serving Our Lady at the helm of the Fatima Center.
For instance:
Yes, much has changed since Fr. Gruner passed, but the mission to which he dedicated so much of his life is growing increasingly more crucial with every passing day. As such, the important question one must ask is simply this:
In Fr. Gruner’s absence, where, and by whom, is the mission of safeguarding and spreading the full message of Fatima still being carried out in all integrity?
