When I heard the first reports of this arrest in Santa Monica, it sounded a bit off, but then came the revision that his intentions (to harm gαys in West Hollywood) were not known after all. I thought, "How could such a thing get into the first report if it had no basis in fact? That would be a major blunder."

Trying to make tannerite into some kind of IED explosive is lacking in integrity. All it's good for is target practice, to make targets that look like they're blowing up. It's too low-level to be effective enough to cause any significant damage.
Hearing broadcasters stumbling over this hackneyed news was interesting. One commentator assured the radio audience that the arrested man is going to be facing a very long prison term, for all things considered, because the weapons and materials he had in his trunk were illegal in California, even if they were not illegal in his home state, but he had left his state under prohibition for him to possess those things even there.
