  • Bishop Fellay Continues to Betray and Contradict St. Pius X

On this feast day of the great Pope St. Pius X, we are reminded of his unwavering stand against the modernist corruption that has infiltrated the Church in our time. His prophetic writings offer invaluable guidance as we confront the apostasy gripping modernist Rome. Pope St. Pius X, in his rigorous defense of the faith, unequivocally condemned the innovations of Vatican II and the Novus Ordo Missae.

St. Pius X’s condemnation of the errors promulgated by Vatican II is clearly articulated in his Syllabus of Errors, which explicitly rejects the doctrinal deviations found in docuмents such as Dignitatis Humanae and Lumen Gentium. These modernist texts diverge from the traditional teachings of the Church and have led many astray. The traditional Catholic faithful recognize these errors, remaining steadfast in their adherence to the pre-Vatican II magisterium.
Furthermore, the so-called “hermeneutics of continuity” introduced by Pope Benedict XVI represents nothing more than a rebranding of the condemned modernist notion of the evolution of dogma. This concept, which seeks to reconcile the teachings of Vatican II with traditional doctrine, is an explicit contradiction of St. Pius X’s condemnation of doctrinal evolution. As St. Pius X declared in his Oath Against Modernism, “I reject the heretical invention of the evolution of dogmas, passing from one meaning to another, different from that which the Church first had.”
In this light, we must critically assess the stance of Bishop Bernard Fellay and the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX). Bishop Fellay’s signing of the Doctrinal Declaration of April 15, 2012, which remains in force within the New SSPX, reflects a troubling acceptance of modernist principles. This declaration asserts that the teachings of the Second Vatican Council must be understood in light of the entire tradition of Catholic Faith, a position that implicitly endorses the hermeneutics of continuity—a concept condemned by St. Pius X.
The most troubling line from this declaration is point #4 which states that “the entire tradition of Catholic Faith must be the criterion and guide in understanding the teaching of the Second Vatican Council, which, in turn, enlightens—in other words, deepens and subsequently makes explicit—certain aspects of the life and doctrine of the Church implicitly present within itself or not yet conceptually formulated.” This approach effectively endorses the evolution of dogma, directly opposing the clear teachings of St. Pius X.
The priestly bulletin Cor Unum, published in March 2013, featured this controversial declaration before being removed from the SSPX's official website. However, it remains accessible in various archives. (The full docuмent can be viewed below this article)

As we honor St. Pius X today, let us reaffirm our commitment to the immutable truths of the Catholic faith, resolutely rejecting the modernist errors that seek to undermine the Church. The defense of tradition is not merely academic but a vital endeavor to preserve the integrity of our faith against the encroaching tide of modernism.

Pope St.Pius X, pray for us!
