You might be surprised at the number of "self appointed / anointed' posses, militias, and gangs that run around dressed as described above thinking they are somehow in charge, especially in the rural west.
When Cliven Bundy was charged with illegally grazing his cattle on public lands multiple "militias" went to Nevada. When lawful agents moved to remove Bundy's cattle from land they shouldn't be on some of these "militias" took it upon themselves to set up roadblocks to "check" cattle trucks belonging to other ranchers who were legally transporting their own cattle. Having worked in the cattle industry my entire life (my current part time work as a funeral assistant is a post-retirement position) this was an outrageous intrusion by private thugs who had no authority.
Being from the eastern US, I guess I wasn’t so much thinking of the rural preppers who’ve formed militias. The OP says ICE is going door to door. Out in cattle country, they’d have a
llllooooooonnnnngggg distance between doors! Plenty of time to gather your own militia and be ready to greet them when they arrive. In the urban east, they have (mostly peaceful) street riots. Also, keep in mind that in cities, especially New York, questionable looking people have long been a normal fixture. If a self-appointed posse marched up Fifth Ave, a few people might glance up from their phones for a couple of seconds, and go their way. The majority wouldn’t bother with them. New Yorkers regularly ignore stranger sights than a group of grown men playing Army.
