  • I noticed that the prices for Judaism Discovered have sky-rocketed:

On Amazon Used copies are selling for $365 minimum, and the new copies are $600.

Apparently Michael Hoffman no longer sells the physical copy of this book. There is a Kindle version for $27.

I have a physical copy in near-mint condition (it's been perused once, and left on the shelf).

I don't read it anymore and am considering selling it (or trading it for some books that I have in mind). Is anyone interested?

  • odd that Hoffman would discontinue it if it sells well (and it typically should if there's a 350+ dollar market for it used!)

Anyway, how does this differ from his Judaism's Strange Gods which is also quite the read?

Is it hardbound?  Make sure to scan it and make several copies of it.  I wonder who is bidding up the price?

  • Hoffmann is coming out with a 2nd edition - not sure when or what this entails. There's also the kindle version which is a lot cheaper, but still expensive for an e-book.

Judaism Discovered includes the entirety of Judaism's strange gods along with several hundred more pages of research and information. I haven't read the other book so i don't know what else is included that isn't in the Judaism's strange gods. It's over a thousand pages in length. The 3 introductions (to the judaic, christian, and general reader) are over 100 pages.

    Yes, it is hardbound.

When I got the book several years ago it was only $50. It was sold by an independent seller through Amazon, which does not carry the book itself. I have no idea why its price is so inflated now.

  • The pricing doesn't have anything to do with this book in particular. I've seen it over and over on Amazon. I think Amazon's system allows such pricing to happen automatically when certain conditions are present. Either that, or it's just the standard business model of some book sellers... manage to sell one copy of something and you can go home for the day.

  • Overpricing a book on Amazon does not necessarily mean that anyone is getting that price, right?  I don't know if there's any way to see what things are selling for on Amazon.  Does anyone know if there is a way to see what has sold and how much something sold for?

I did a search on Ebay for completed listings for this book and see that there was one listed from a seller in Australia for $80.00 (plus $74.25 for shipping) but the listing ended on 12/21 and the book did not sell.  It seems to me that Ebay is a better indicator of what may be fair market value, or at least what price someone is willing to pay.  So, since this book didn't sell, I seriously doubt that anyone on Amazon is selling their copies of this book.

I often wonder if putting an item into your saved shopping cart of Amazon and just leaving it there week after week without purchasing it will bring the price down.  I have done that just to watch something and indeed, the price did come down.  Whether that was a result of the seller being able to see that a potential buyer was watching something or merely coincidence, I don't know.

  • I see there is an option of buying three copies for 49.95 for US customers.

Judaism's Strange Gods. Contains all of Michael Hoffman's main facts and most effective research exposing Judaism, in an easy-to-read, quality paperback. Judaism's Strange Gods is a condensed version of Hoffman's huge reference work, Judaism Discovered. Judaism is overwhelming the Tea Party and the Right wing, masquerading as a family values partner with patriots against the forces of evil. On the Left, it poses as a progressive partner with peace activists. Christian scholar Michael Hoffman blows that facade to smithereens in clear and understandable writing, and does so charitably and without hatred. Christian bookstores are packed with tomes purporting to unmask the religion of Islam, but not one slim volume will be found delving into the depravities of Orthodox Judaism. Judaism's Strange Gods corrects that imbalance. One of the most important books of our time. Quality paperback. Illustrated. 381 pages.
