Today is the Earth Hour. I've heard it in the news today and the anchor called the viewers to participate.
While it is important to be in the spirit of poverty, this celebration is about radical environmentalism which is a tactic pushed by the enemies of God.

It seems obvious that environmentalism with its kind of cultish concern about "the environment," encourages contraception, if not in fact lifting it up to the status of a virtue and perhaps even a necessity for the "faithful" to believe in. That might not be as disturbing, if it wasn't so ubiquitous in catholic and protestant churches, all over america.

Please read St. Francis de Sales' "The Introduction to the Devout Life" who devoted a chapter or two on the true spirit of poverty and NEVER heed the secular press for any advice regarding the spirit of poverty.
