I never gave a thought to where my toothbrushes come from. I will now. Thank you both.
Hi Sigismund,
With so much going on, most people don't think about where plastic items are made. I'd forgotten my boycott during my husband's years of terminal cancer... However, a recent news-story about a desperate note hidden in some decorations made in China by (often Christian) slaves reminded me.
When I began to check labels once again, I was astonished to see that now over 99% of ALL items on my shopping list that were non-food products were made in China!? I rarely see any i-pod or other devices made in Japan or the U.S. As for cheaper plastic goods like brushes, combs, mirrors, tools, plastic containers, plastic cups, pill-containers/boxes, home medical devices, etc.---take a look at these items anywhere that is considered a "large chain" store. I'll bet that you will find the same trend. Ominously, some large chains now only say that the product is "
distributed by wal******" or whatever the chain. This allows them to NOT disclose where the items are made.
Meanwhile, China continues to use slave labor...Nobody can offer to make products as cheaply without slaves, but I thought America's own cινιℓ ωαr had taught us NOT to do such a despicable thing. Now, Americans make less and less product here. It makes no sense economically or
morally that we could consume so much from a Communist country in this way. I believe that we are already starting to suffer for it, but things can get much worse.
Your opinion is welcome.
