Yes.  We should try to use other slang.  Same with the concept of "luck" that flies under most people's radars.  "Luck" is an Eastern "Mysticism"/Pagan idea but people use the phrase..."I was lucky" or other things close without even really thinking about what they're saying.

For the ones in the OP I use slang like "oh that stinks" or "oh no" or "you don't say" or "doesn't that beat all" and for "luck" I try to use things like "well that worked out for you didn't it" or "that worked out for me" or things like that.  I still slip on these occasionally.  When you've been ingrained for so long to hear/see/use those common expressions it's possible to slip.  Just have to retrain.

Yes.  I forbid my children to use those expressions, along with gosh.  They are both abbreviated references to Jesus/God and as disrespectful as if they had used the entire name.

Fr. Ripperger had said that "j-e-e-p-e-r-s" is also a way of taking the Lord's Name in vain.

There is also the fact that even common expressions used a lot now are ways of taking the names of Our Lord and Our Lady in vain too.

More than anything, the way the Lord's Name is taking in vain so much in films. I thought I saw years ago on the forum here that it was a rule that Hollywood had to follow to make movies.

I've thought about this before. Why would Christians believe in 'luck' when everything is God's will or what God allows to happen by someone else's will?

Also the same with 'oh my goodness', only God is good so this as well I need to ask God for grace to stop saying stuff like this.

I'm OK with the expression, "Good luck."  Nobody believes in some personified deity of "Fortuna" anymore.  This expression simply means something along the lines of, "I hope it works out well for you." or "I wish you all the best."
