My husband warned me not to click the LIKE button anywhere on the Internet because of the information mining used to promote advertising.

So, is the LIKE button here at CI just a game to entertain, or does it go deeper offering CI incentives to earn revenue?
Lord have mercy.

It's a game to entertain, basically.

When you click "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" that vote is added to a database. They are kept track of by user and by post. It adds a down/up vote to the user who owns the post, and each post has its own count.

That's all it's used for -- a rough measure of how "kosher" something is among the Trad Catholics on CathInfo.

CathInfo has no ties to Facebook at all. The "like" button here is called that informally, but it has nothing to do with Facebook or its "Likes" system.

FYI, the only revenue generation happening on CathInfo is the regular old banner ads. That's it.

  • By the way, I'm a bit insulted that you have me in the same category as the Jєω Mark Zuckerberg.

    "Not Mark Zuckerberg!"

Come on! He's a Jєω who started Facebook with CIA funding. What did you expect?

That's no reason to question everyone and everything, including fellow Catholics who run small businesses, forums, blogs, and other websites.

If Mark Zuckerberg were a Trad Catholic, I would *completely* understand where you're coming from.

But it's kind of funny, really.

It would be like saying, "Hugh Hefner has had more than one sɛҳuąƖ partner?  No!!   Not Hugh Hefner!  Who can we trust to have upright morality!?!  I give up!  Who's next, our Trad priest?"

  • The only thing that the thumbs up/down button is really used for on Cath Info is a weak attempt at controlling public opinion among Trads. You will notice that many of those who promote the Feenyite heresy have great scores on their reputation... from what I have seen. So, the reputation here is affected by the thumbs up/down. Probably 90 percent or more of my thumbs down was after posting on the Feenyite heresy or being followed and down thumbed by Feenyite heretics (of which the moderator does not believe is heresy, hence his allowing it to be promoted here).

I just accidentally down-thumbed Matthew's last post here, btw, because I thought I couldn't do it and was curious to see what would happen.
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

If Zuckerberg was running CathInfo he would probably be selling thumbs up (and allow them to be used by the person buying them to be applied to their own posts) and thumbs down for a dollar a pop.  The Jєωs aren't ones to miss a trick.

Thank you very much for your response.  It should give my husband some relief.
