For me this has been the biggest shift in public attitudes I have ever witnessed. At my school in the 1980s ZERO boys would have been pro-gαy. There was a singer called Boy George in a British band Culture Club around 1982/1983 and even expressing any like for him would get you beaten up for being a fαɢɢօt. About 20% of the girls liked Boy George but 80% of the girls thought that he was a weird queer.
My generation now in their early 50s are now majority accepting of gαy marriage and super accepting of queers. So their attitudes have completely reversed in a 30-40 year period. I've even seen this with older people. It is not at all uncommon now for people in their 70s and 80s to be very accepting of sodomites.
I had a debate with a woman about this on Saturday at a party. I said to her, "now that ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ marriage is legal and widely accepted why not polygamous marriage? Why in fact can a person not decide to marry a pot plant, or a robot, or a farm animal?"
She then said polygamous marriage was an "abusive relationship" because the women were not entering into it willingly and therefore it should not be legal.
"So, you get to decide what 3 consenting adults do and draw the line at polygamy, which has gone on in MANY societies over millennia? Seems to me that you are imposing your completely made up moral values on other people. There is NO rational justification for denying consenting adults any relationship they want to enter into as "marriage" once you derestrict marriage from the definition of a single male and a single female". She had no answer.
