What is it about exactly? Do you have the date of it?

Ok, I`ll check in the library when I go there (I hope to remember since my memory is really bad!). You have the date of it?

  • Cristian, Telesphorus --

In general, is there a way to access papal and other Catholic historical docuмents if you cannot go to a library anywhere?  Is there a way to have entree to the JStor library when one not an academic, by paying a (reasonable) membership fee?

I have been trying to find Pius IX's allocution to French pilgrims of May 5, 1874, and have only come up with blanks.  (Maybe because of how un-PC a docuмent it no doubt is?)

    Innocenza,

Sorry, I don`t know very much where to find out on the net those papal docuмents.

What is it about that allocution of Pius IX? (I`m almost sure I can get this one on the library).

  • Cristian --

That allocution has been cited as stating:

"To allow the masses, invariably uninformed and impulsive, to make decisions on the most serious matters, is this not to hand oneself over to chance and deliberately run towards the abyss? Yes, universal suffrage should rather be called universal madness, and when, as so often happens, it is taken over by the secret societies, it is universal falsehood!"

I wanted to see the original in its entirety, but have come up with nothing on the Net.

    Many thanks, Cristian!

    Innocenza,

Ok, I`ll check it as soon as I can. I`m sure I can get it on the library.

  • If they do, I haven't found what I was looking for there.  Not that I have any but very amateur skills in such research.  I've only found references to the supposed allocution; the original appears completely elusive.

    Regards.

As time goes on many of these things are being purged and harder to find.  It's important to save docuмents when we find them, I need to keep that lesson in mind.
