What an outrage!  An insult to the good and holy Pope Pius IX!

All I can see on the website about this movie (in production now?) is the following:
    .
    Production Status:
    Quote

    The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara
    Drama, History

The treatment of a young Jєωιѕн boy, forcibly raised as a Christian in 19th century Italy, creates a furor which pits the Papacy itself against forces of democracy and Italian unification.
    .
I recall reading about a case of a Jєωιѕн boy who was somehow rescued from a perilous situation and then raised by the Pope in the Vatican, and he grew up Catholic. (Shocker!) I suppose that would not happen after Vat.II, when even a fugitive priest who escaped from the Eastern Bloc (Orthodox) could not find refuge in the Vatican because they were afraid it would offend the Orthodox.

  • This is definitely worth a movie production, but not by a monstrous Jєω like spielberg. This is the Jєωιѕн boy who was baptized by a catholic babysitter due to illness if I remember correctly.  He grew up at the feet of the Pope and became a catholic priest at 21 by papal dispensation.  And, if I recall correctly, he always tried to convert his parents and family to catholicism.  So, if I recall correctly, he was probably a very holy priest.  I just got this quote from wikipedia.

Father Mortara spent most of the rest of his life outside Italy, travelling throughout Europe and preaching. It was said that he could give sermons in six languages, including Basque, and read three more, including Hebrew.[99] "As a preacher he was in great demand," Kertzer writes, "not least because of the inspirational way he was able to weave the remarkable story of his own childhood into his sermons. As he recounted it, his saga was the stuff of faith and hope: a story of how God chose a simple, illiterate servant girl to invest a small child with the miraculous powers of divine grace, and in doing so rescued him from his Jєωιѕн family—good people but, as Jєωs, on a God-forsaken path."[99

This priest and story is quite special.
