The argument was that the UN has no right to force changes in the laws of soverign nations, and that laws on social views (given the difference in cultures and societies). They said all states have to stop punishment for ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ acts and were wondering how this would infringe upon the rights of the Holy See; I pointed out how under canon law, sodomy was punishable by excommunication since the Third Lateran Council. Excommunication is punishment, they took my point. After rallying the majority Catholic and Orthodox nations behind my banner and entering into an alliance with Saudi Arabia, the bill still passed, but was so heavily ammended that little to no change (in favor of ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity) would result! For example, in countries where one con be executed for gαy acts, you just deport them and can even torture them (not something I personally argued for) before hand!
