    • The Aussie Government gave us the $5000.  

    Maternity Payment (more info)
       money to help with the extra costs of a new baby. The payment is currently (May 2005) $3,000, but is due to rise to $4,000 in July 2006 and $5,000 in July 2008 (see government budget docuмent. The payment is not means tested, but there are eligibility requirements, such as Australian residency. This payment is applicable for babies born after 1 July 2004 and replaces the old Maternity Allowance and Baby Bonus (payable through the ATO). See more info below.
