  • I have heard the Dimonds ridicule and condemn laity who monetarily support groups such as the SSPX, SSPV, CMRI, et al who preach or impose heresy. They base this on, I believe, a decree of Innocent III who condemned the support of heretics. I may be wrong on that.

Setting aside whether you "like" the Dimonds or not, or whether they those aforementioned groups are in fact "heretical", is the premise of financial support unsubstantiated? Are they right in theory?

  • They would have to establish that these groups are, in fact, heretics. But, since this is coming from a group who are themselves Feeneyite heretics, I would take their declarations of "heresy" upon other Catholics groups with a huge amount of skepticism.
"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

As I said, I don't care about what you call them. I asked can someone monetarily support "heretics"?

What do you mean by 'support'?

'Cuz I know just about every dollar I pay in taxes ends up supporting heretics to some degree.

Indeed. Good point. I meant putting money in the Offertory basket or seminarian collections.

I am pretty sure that decree would no longer be binding with the promulgation of the 1917 code of canon law
