Here is a collaborating video from Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It is not only in the deep South alone.

The explanation as to why it does not melt is given above.  It is basic high school science.  Capillary action, surface tension, sublimation and incomplete combustion.

A million idiots can make the same video and the same thing will happen and always has happened before there were governments or aeroplanes.

It proves nothing except how much you want to believe anything that corroborates your nutty view of the world.

The guy on the video says "it smells like plastic, like it's aluminum or something."

Assuming he's been burning a lot of aluminum and plastic, he probably knows what he's talking bout.  :smoke-pot:
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • Basically non melting snowballs smell like crashed airliners.

    Who knew?

  • I actually tried the same lighter burn test with good old Midwest snow and it looks the same! Then I put it in a pan over a 15,000 btu/hr range burner and it melted leaving what appeared to be water.

    Thanks, SBJ.

Whew! What  a relief. I was starting to have a panic attack. You see I have very little hands on experience of snow. This is all very enlightening.:laugh1:

Yes, I was thinking I've probably experienced more fake snow in my life than real snow... we made "snow" at the children's museum a few weeks ago... I once saw a group of lawn maintenance employees shoveling "snow" in 85* weather.

  • First I want to apologize to everyone for this post as it has nothing to do with the topic at hand which is turning out to be quite interesting thanks to ggreg, BUT some things were said about me on this thread & I really need to address it here, so bear with me & then I'll be on my way.  Thanks.

Matthew, I did not know that the mere mention of you-know-who (not even the name but just the initials!!!) would trigger such a violent reaction from you otherwise I wouldn't have done so.  It won't happen again.  I didn't even post about you-know-who in detail so don't know what on earth you mean to shut up about it!!  Maybe you're under a lot of stress.

I will either sign someone up for your free account or even get someone to buy or play your new video game (I don't play games but know people who do) if you can show me & the members here exactly where I was uncharitable to the person in question. I sincerely asked the person questions because I couldn't understand what the person  meant.  The person answered but some things just didn't add up.  Sorry.  I'm very forthright.  Once more you are accusing me of things others have posted.   Furthermore, lying to a sincere person who was truly trying to help that person in NOT being sincere.   This was not a den of lions, but it did turn out to be a pack of wolves against anyone who dared post an opinion contrary to you-know-who's defenders.  Actually it was me & others who were falsely accused of the most ugliest things I've ever been subjected to.

I do find it odd that you got tied into knots over this.  I'm being truthful.  This will be the end of me  mentioning this hideous episode. Just had to clear the air tho & not let it fester.

btw - Was your last paragraph directed at me or am I being paranoid?  Some day we may meet in person & you'll see that I'm not the ogre that you portray me as.

  • There are a few "Bic lighter" type experiments on the web that measure the actual heat transfer from the flame to a metal coin at less than 4 watts.  The compacted snowball has to undergo a phase change (melting) which requires a enormous amount of energy in comparison with a 4 watt heat source.

I suppose because the flame is hot, most people just assume it would melt ice rather quickly. That's a really bad assumption.

  • Here is an interesting website from GeoEngineering Watch-Chemically
    Nucleated Snow, What is it!
    It is technical reading.

There's nothing technical about that "article." It's just the pseudo-technical garbage that flows from the politically motivated "climate change" agenda.

Well plastic is not aluminium and aluminium is not plastic.  One is a metal and the other is made from hydrocarbons.  So which is it, plastic, or aluminium or something?

The smell is probably from impurities in the gas or aerosol propellant they have just burned, inefficiently, and left deposits of on the face of the snowball.  But it might also be from whatever they have been touching prior to picking up the snow or from pollution in the atmosphere which the snow collects when it forms, though frankly the amount of that on a couple of square inches of snowball would be tiny.  Remember that snow, being a crystal has an extraordinarily high surface area.  Did they smell an unburned snowball?

No they didn't.  Because that would be something an intelligent person would do.

What makes me laugh about idiots that cannot rationally think through this nonsense is it is junior high school science. Surely you learned about capillary action, at school.  Surely you have dipped the corner of a sugar cube into tea or coffee and watched the liquid rise 2cms above the surface of the drink.  What do you think makes the tea or coffee rise up the sugar cube against the force of gravity?  Satan?  Feminism?

Even if you goofed off in science lessons, surely you know that snow melts.  So snow that apparently does not melt under the heat of a lighter cannot mean that it would not melt at all, or it would still be there lying on the ground in July.  There MUST be another reason it is not melting.  The first conclusion one jumps to should not be that there is a government conspiracy to drop non-melting snow over half a million square miles of North America.

Thinking like that means that your brain is broken.  You have not merely got no understanding of basic high school science you don't even know how to think straight and rationalise the most likely explanations.

And yet such people believe themselves qualified to postulate that the Apollo Astronauts did not go to the moon or that the sun and the galaxy of stars revolves around the earth.

Didn't you forget a few things, ggreg?

    What about rationalizing,
..whether hell is a real place,
..or whether we should believe that Jesus literally rose from the dead,
..or whether we should really believe anything that the Church teaches?

What those 70,000 witnesses at Fatima saw in 1917 is a little foretaste of what people will think when the heavens are rolled up like a scroll at the end of the world.

Several millions of people in Georgia and Alabbama saw the snow fall from the sky. It was cold. It melted when the sun came out and the temperature got above 32 degrees.

I have never actually seen the sugar cubes rise because I use a porcelain cup...

...but I do need to use a spoon to stir the coffee!
