It seems to be a movie stereotype: They show you a catholic household with stern catholic (grand) parents, guardians etc. as abusive simply because they want their children to be polite and pure....
Then the child's savior comes, usually a boy friend or a modern-minded teacher/governess to rescue and liberate him or her. Then it is conflict and at the end ''good ones'' win and ''evil parents'' admit that they have been wrong!
All the time you are made to believe that God is on the side of the ''good ones''.
Why? Will someone resist them?
