  • Pretty amazing not only that they make such expensive junk, they are also able to sell such expensive junk.

  • Software undoubtedly programmed in India.  For any of us who have ever worked with Indian software, you know what I'm talking about.

There's this absurd mis-perception that Indians are software geniuses.  I've worked with hundreds of Indian software teams over the years, and they were all complete idiots who had no idea what they were talking about (I could give details but that would be far too techy for this forum).

I had one or two who were AVERAGE by our standards, and these seemed like a breath of fresh air to work with.

I would no more trust my families' lives to this than I would to my Microsoft PC.  Their "blue screen of death" would result in literal death out on the roads.

  • Neither the tech nor the infrastructure are ready for EVs to be anything but an expensive toy niche. I believe it was California that wanted conventional vehicles off the road in favor of electric vehicles by 2035 and that simply isn't happening by then, if ever.

The "kill switch" (covertly installed on all EV's in order to limit travel of anyone without the social credit score to "merit" such a privilege, and also to prevent escape) is probably inadvertantly being triggered.

California will have a heck of a time generating enough electricity, as their hydro-electric power is in real jeopardy due to the dropping water levels.

Interesting hypothesis.  Perhaps this feature was in there but was supposed to be disabled until ready for rollout, and this guy made a phone call while driving where he said something politically incorrect ... and ... zap.

I don’t think it’s limited to just EVs, with all the electronics in gas powered vehicles I always believed that they have control of most modern cars.

Oh they do, I can't remember where I saw it, but there's a capability to shut down a vehicle remotely.

Yes, there is more about GEOFENCING and the kill switch, including for cars and tractors in this post:

  • I found the angst some are having over this a bit bemusing, and lots of hyperbole in the video.  PLEANTY (innumerable perhaps) of internal combustion powered vehicles have stopped dead in traffic for one reason or another.  And yes, sometimes with the transmission “stuck” in a gear because of computer or mechanical issue, and the interlock system preventing the vehicle from starting.  It is a simple matter of dropping the driveline to allow the rear wheels to “free wheel”.  With front wheel and all-wheel drive rigs the tow truck will have those lifted up.  They can put a dolly under the rear tires if need be.  It’s always irritating to have a rig stall but it is rarely catastrophic and can always be dealt with.

Neither the tech nor the infrastructure are ready for EVs to be anything but an expensive toy niche.

Defiantly.  The same was true when the internal combustion automobile was first introduced.  Only the VERY rich could afford them and they usually couldn’t travel far from the city where they lived as the infrastructure of petro stations and tire repair shops (the roads back then were hard on tires) was not developed nor well distributed and there weren’t many skilled mechanics.  On the other hand even most small towns had a blacksmith who could shoe your horse and repair your wagon wheel, and they had livery stables where you could board your horse for the night or even trade it for a fresh one.

I don't know if this could be the case in the situation in the OP but people should know about this anyway.  A couple of items from the Blockchain Slavery post (more info there) linked to above:

    Kill Switch:
    Quote
Deere is one of many companies that practice “VIN-locking,” a practice that comes from the automotive industry (“VIN” stands for “vehicle identification number,” the unique serial number that every automotive manufacturer stamps onto the engine block and, these days, encodes in the car’s onboard computers).

VIN locks began in car-engines. Auto manufacturers started to put cheap microcontrollers into engine components and subcomponents. A mechanic could swap in a new part, but the engine wouldn’t recognize it — and the car wouldn’t drive — until an authorized technician entered an unlock code into a special tool connected to the car’s internal network.

What the heck is auto geofencing?

    "Geofences can be programmed to:

Change the speed of cars driving within a zone (based on weather, traffic congestion, or pedestrian density).

Flip hybrid cars to electric mode to reduce noise and air pollution."

But I think with the EVs they can go much farther, where they can take complete control of the vehicle, likely lock the doors, and drive you to the local detention center for processing.  With non-EVs, I think it's much more difficult to completely control the vehicle.

    Yes.  Problem...reaction...solution:

I have a feeling our savior Trump may be unveiling his Uncle's John's technology he confiscated from Tesla sometime soon.

    Free energy!  Hooray!

In similar fashion to releasing the prisoners, removing looting and theft laws, evil cops murdering innocent people, school shootings, defunding the police...

    Problem...reaction...solution:

    Surveillance state!  Hooray!

They want us to welcome our prison planet.
