Title: EasyRealistic countries to pack up and move to?
Post by: jozeftiso1947 on August 12, 2013, 11:49:50 PM
If someone wanted to pack up and leave the US for a whole bunch of reasons, which nations would be the easiest move? (Excluding the EU, China, Africa, north korea, and other outliers)

What do you mean by the "easiest" move.

I suspect you'd find reasons to dislike the place you moved to soon enough.

I've always thought Georgia (the country) would be a nice place to retire.  Great climate, nice people, divorce is rare family unit has not broken down, fruit and vegetables are growing everywhere with a couple of growing seasons per year, they cost peanuts, nothing poisonous and no enviromental pollution or tropical diseases.

Wine is very good too.

This is hilarious!  I'm bursting into laughing tears.  On the inside.

I said this exact same thing back in 2009 over on Fisheaters.  Got excoriated for it.  Apparently, four years ago, to say such a thing was tantamount to being an unpatriotic America-hater.

I guess it's now acceptable to ask this sort of thing.

Meh.

Everyone talks about Malta, as being mostly "Catholic" but isn't Malta Novus Ordo, which is the same to say Non-Catholic?  Statistics can be deceitful.

I don't think there is any traditional Catholic chapels there, not even the Latin Mass is offered. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Good point.

I would rather see the U.S. dissolve into several small nation-states.

I've concluded I'd like to either live in Malta or Hungary, in that order.  Malta is a nice place, and I'd enjoy it.  Hungary is making an awesome comeback, I've heard.

But no, I never moved as I hoped.  The reality of children stopped that before I could make it happen.

I dont know why parts of Asia are a priori off limits to the OP. That's a bit odd...and a mistake IMO

Read the International Man blog/newsletter. If you're on FB, 'Like' them.

To answer the question as structured, consider Argentina. No, really. It's actually not so bad for a foreigner bringing in their own currency.

Most jobs are in on-line gambling and Financial Services (tax avoidance) and right now the Spanish are making it difficult for the locals to leave the place.

It's a VERY small place to be stuck on it you cannot travel unhindered into Spain and back again.  There are lot of items you would need to cross into Spain for.

Crossing the border there has been a hassle for years.  The Spanish are constantly playing silly buggers.  Last time I drove over and back relatively unhindered was 1991

Just pointing out that people should not really recommend relocating to a country unless they have some experience of living there.

Living in Russia, as a non-Russian is pretty darned difficult.  There is a lot of corruption, very little due-process in law, an amazing amount of bureaucracy (you have to see it to believe it) and two Tradition masses in the whole country (both in Moscow).  The roads are deadly, the winters are long, dirty and difficult, healthcare has very variable standards, 10% of places are environmentally polluted, alcoholism is a problem (amongst men).

Obtaining a job will be difficult.  It is VERY hard to obtain citizenship, even if you marry a Russian woman so every six months to a year you will be leaving the country and obtaining a new temporary visa and work permit.   That is much harder than the US.  Starting a business will involve bribing officials unless you operate all your clients and banking outside of Russia and can thus stay under the radar.

Just because they don't tolerate the ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ lobby it does not make Russia a great place to relocate.

You would have to be a very adventurous and flexible person to live in Russia and take the good with the bad and honestly feel comfortable that you had made the best choice.  And the only good reason I can think why anyone would choose Russia would be a very pretty woman as a wife.  It certainly has plenty of those.

We must wait and pray for the de jure Pope to publicly consecrate Russia  to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, along with all the Bishops of the world.

Well, as far as ease of moving, Canada has to be top of the list for American citizens.  I am not sure it is much better here, certainly the Catholic faith is just as trashed as in the US.  But one thing we have going for us here in Canada is our lack of 'Yankee can do spirit'.  We are considerably lazier about implementing the police state compared to our southern neighbors so I figure we are a good 10 years at least behind 'Merica in that regard.  I consider that a bonus.  Another plus is we still have tons of natural resources that other countries actually want to buy from us, so that more or less underpins our economy.

You have a great sense of humor Luker!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I had the impression Canada has been run by the tribe for a long time?

The metric for judging this is... any country that's legalized ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity is run by our "elder brothers", as Msgr fellay so thoughtfully calls them.

I suspect your Prime Minster will either allow or be forced to allow US Airforce drones to run surveillance in Canada.

When WWIII arrives, as the Catholic predictions go, Canadians will be facing Russian troops and Americans will square of with the Chinese Red army.

My latest survival strategy is to be duck hunting through it all, camped out  on the Upper Peninsula.

I hope my 12 gauge loads are going to able to take-out some drones?

Yes, this is probably true.  But we are still more attached (for better or for worse) to Great Britain than to the US by virtue of our constitutional monarchy, toothless and heretical as it is.  This has been changing especially since 9/11.  However, I do take heart in the perpetual disappointment first of Emperor Bush the Younger, and now of Emperor Obama in our laziness and lack of will in supporting the Great War On Terror, and the Great Wars on Drugs and Poverty.

I agree with your suspicions that Canada will by hook or crook have to allow for US drone patrols over Canadian airspace.  The upside is that with the vast, trackless miles of wilderness we have here, any drones assigned to Canada will be watching caribou and bears mating instead of hassling honest citizens in the lower 48 states. I would consider that a silver lining to the drone cloud.

As for 'Red Hordes' coming to the west coast of N America, in the words of my redneck friends "Come 'n get some!!" We Canadians are much, much better armed than most of our southern neighbors suspect.  And outside of our cities which are plagued with effeminate hipsters, Canadian men are more than willing to fight.  As many 'Merican good 'ol boys have discovered that came up here to work.  Beware the strength of our Canadian beer, and the hardness of a Canadian miner's fists!!!

And what a beautiful place your country is !

The thought of spending my "end times" in the rugged wilderness of Canada sounds very appealing.

Did you ever see the recent Robert Redford movie "Conspirator" ?

There's a scene where a Confederate loyalist, accused in the plot to αssαssιnαtҽ Lincoln, hi-tails it to the Canadian wilderness.

Interestingly, only a Catholic priest is able to find him.

You're right unfortunately. Most of the Maltese are Novus Ordo Catholics. The few traditional Catholics are harassed by the local Church authorities. One of the best known was even blacklisted and termed as schismatic. The few priests who celebrated have been silenced.

There are no traditional chapels. There seemed to have been an attempt at establishing a SSPX presence here:

http://pro-tridentina-malta.blogspot.com/2011/08/flash-news-sspx-delegation-in-malta.html

but nothing concrete developed. There were rumours that the SSPX decided to ignore requests from Malta. In another post, I mentioned if anyone knows whether Bishop Williamson visited Malta earlier this year. Apparently there are many efforts going on, notwithstanding Church opposition. But traditional Catholics in Malta are fractured :argue:, some are even known to have orbited towards "Pope" Michael,  :incense: with obvious repercussions on the rest.

There have been a number of TLMs in the capital and elsewhere:

http://pro-tridentina-malta.blogspot.com/2011/07/tridentine-mass-in-valletta.html

http://pro-tridentina-malta.blogspot.com/2011/10/another-tridentine-mass-in-valletta.html

but the latest one known was not even open for Maltese:

http://pro-tridentina-malta.blogspot.com/2013/02/tridentine-mass-in-valletta-with.html

Apologies for the several links posted but like this you'll have a clearer picture of the situation in this country.

If I were you, I'd avoid Malta. It has very beautiful churches (the old ones at least), Novus Ordo is largely not as eccentric as in other countries - some of them are also quite traditional looking, but TLMs are out of the question, especially since the current Pope started his mission   .

It's not that asking this is acceptable "now", it's the forum on which you are asking.  Fisheaters, from the little I've seen of it, is an Americanist and Modernist forum and serves the "smells and bells" traditional community.

CathInfo is a traditional Catholic forum and the question is legitimate.

In answer, however, I have lived in Asia and I have lived in Europe (both prior to finding tradition).  Frankly, I would not voluntarily leave the United States to live permanently in any other country.  As bad as things are for traditional Catholics in the United States, I think this there is more opportunity for the growth of Catholicism here than elsewhere.  The government is getting more and more intrusive every day--but the government here is just catching up with other governments around the world.

Better armed with what? Everything I hear about Canadian gun laws makes them sound much more draconian than US gun laws (outside of places like Chicago and New York and San Francisco, anyway). In the US we still have the 2nd Amendment.
