A ROSARY crusade has taken place close to a Mass rock where a Canadian mining firm refused permission for a Catholic service last year.

Dozens of people last night took part in the ‘Rosary to Our Lady’ on a country road close to an ancient Mass rock near Greencastle in Co Tyrone.

The Rosary will be said at the site every night during May, a month when Catholics pay special homage to the mother of Christ.
The sacramental rock is located close to an eight foot high blessed statue of the Virgin Mary and plinth which was erected close to the Mass rock last week.

Some residents have objected to the plan on health and environmental grounds and are fearful that if the plan goes ahead the ancient Mass rock could end up submerged in a pond.

The Rosary crusade has been organised by the recently formed Molly Maguires Ancient Order of Hibernian (AOH) division.
Last year Dalradian Gold refused to allow a local priest Fr John Forbes to say Mass at the historic site.
The sacramental stone, which is in an area known as Crockanboy Hill, is believed to date back to the penal laws when Catholics were forced to practice their faith in secret.

Last month the AOH announced plans to mark the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions later this year with a parade to the Mass rock.
Helen Tracey, who is a member of the Molly Maguires AOH division, said the gold mine issue had “divided” the local community.
“We are going back to the basics of prayer and the power of prayer and I think people will come together by the power of prayer,” she said.
In a statement issued last year Dalradian appeared to dispute the beliefs of the priest and some local residents.
“We have no evidence of a Mass rock on land owned or controlled by us,” it said

The Rosary at the Greencastle Mass Rock was said entirely in Irish on Saturday, May 6th and was well attended. The recital was organised and led by Sinéad Ní Mhearnóg of our Craobh na nGael Division and we thank her for the excellent work that was done.

The Tyrone County Board notes that at the same time droves of Orangemen converged on Portadown to "celebrate" the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's assault on the Catholic Faith.

We now expect all Hibernians in Tyrone and elsewhere to make every effort in the coming weeks to be at the Greencastle Mass Rock to pay tribute to our ancestors who, despite the persecution of dungeon, fire and sword, keep the ancient Catholic Faith alive amid the remote glens and mountains of Ireland. This Catholic Faith we shall maintain.

  • A man who attended posted the following on the Tyrone AOH Facebook page. Hopefully the five minute video with Gerry McGeough speaking is uploaded to YouTube. He outlines how he feels  the devil is taking revenge on Irish Catholics via the International Financiers, who are part of the ѕуηαgσgυє of Satan.

At the Mass Rock of Crocknaboy

During the Penal Laws in Ireland it was a criminal act for Catholics to gather to hear a priest say Mass. Often people would gather in secret to hear mass, Crocknaboy Hill near Greencastle is one of the mass rock sites.

The Greencastle community are locked in a bitter dispute with Canadian gold prospectors who plan to build a gold mine factory over the land. Last month strangers arrived at night and placed the statue of the Virgin Mary on the site of the ancient Mass Rock. Hundreds have gathered to say rosary. Tonight I witnessed a hundred people gathered to hear the Rosary said mostly in Gaelic. It was a moving sight and very poignant to think that in Penal Law times the same gatherings took place every Sunday.

  • I don't know how things are in Ireland, but I know how this would play out in the States.
Somehow, you would become homegrown terrorists.  After all, people who would actually defy "legitimate authority" (as if a mining company could "own" an identifiable historical site and regulate access) are "religious fanatics" (and probably homophobes and h0Ɩ0cαųst deniers as well, the only crimes in this country besides speeding and asserting one's constitutional rights) and need "psychological treatment" (understand: forced indoctrination) and as such, constitute a "danger to society" (read: They might actually wake some of the sheeple up.).  Of course, if enough people show up and you keep the video cameras rolling (People have found out that when you film the cops doing illegal things and post it Youtube even the sheeple get outraged, and juries tend to ignore all the bovine excrement the judge hurls at them, even when they're stacked by the prosecution.  And as a result the "terrorists" go free.) they will lock themselves in a holding position, go into intimidation mode, and wait for somebody to so much as drop a wrapper on the ground [littering is a crime if they can prove it- heck, I've heard of apartment complexes getting genetic markers are all the tenants dogs so they can interdict the perpetrators of poopy piles. (Really, it would be cheaper to hire somebody to police the grounds and clean up the messes, but we're talking about taking the surveillance state to levels that would have made Stalin giddy with ecstasy.)] then, look out below!
But, really, more power to ya!

I really don't know where the Ancient Order of Hiberians occupy the political spectrum, but anybody willing to say the rosary in defiance of political correctness gets my vote.  Even JFK had his moments.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us, you are our only hope.

  • Don't want to rain on the parade but, of course, it was a Novus Ordo Mass (in IRISH yet!). That being said however, doing some kickback as they are by using the Rosary is certainly a start to a larger Gaelic resistance there.  Here's to prayers that these people continue their stand by tracing truth all the way back to what has happened to the Church via modernism and, therefore, the reason for the sad downfall of formerly Catholic Ireland.  Our Lady of Knock and St. Patrick, pray for us and them.

    .
Do you say "CROCK-na-boy"? Or is it more like "CROAK'n-abay" or whatever?
    .
I've never heard the Rosary in Gaelic!
    .
In fact, I've never heard OF the Rosary in Gaelic.
    .
But it makes perfect sense that it would have been prayed that way, at least in private so to speak?
    .
Incidentally, since the British were known to KILL anyone who was caught speaking Gaelic in public, one can only wonder what they would have done to Irish Catholics caught (during the Penal Laws time) praying the Rosary that way!!
    .
    God bless the faithful Irish.
    .
If you can post any links to videos or recordings which contain the Gaelic Rosary prayers, that would be great. I have heard the Hail Mary in English, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Vietnamese, Latin, German, Portuguese and Korean, but not in Gaelic. This must be remedied!!!
    .
It seems to me we Catholics ought to be very interested in hearing the Hail Mary in all languages, because the appeal of Our Lady knows no national boundaries for she is of universal appeal.
