Earl of Devonshire:
First of all, Scotland was forced into its current economic dependence on England due to the Acts of Union in 1706-1707. Since the days of Edward Longshanks (aka "Hammer of the Scots"), the English had tried to dominate and subject Scotland.
Second of all, most of the "loyalists" in Northern Ireland are Protestants and descendants of English and Anglicized Scottish colonists transplanted by Oliver Cromwell. The vast majority of these loyalists are neither Irish nor Catholic.
Third of all Ireland is an ISLAND. There is no such thing as "giving parts of the the north to Ireland"... the north is already in Ireland. And it belongs to the Irish, not the British and their colonists.
