  • I know that on the one hand "even one death isn't worth 100 million dollars".
Nevertheless, we all have to die sometime! We are mortal, and death is a natural part of life on this earth.

    Keeping that in mind --

You have to ADD the lives saved due to the shutdown and THEN subtract the deaths from COVID/flu/mixed causes/whatever.

Therefore: total deaths per week seems to be the most objective measure of how we're doing -- how many NET LIVES ARE BEING SAVED OR LOST.

I know you know this, but money isn't just money either.  I know plenty of people, me included, that have said stuff about being concerned about "the economy."  Not one of us is concerned about the wealth of billionaires, corporate CEOs, or anything like that, but the livelihoods of regular people.

Supporting the shutdown despite the cost is one thing, but ignoring it is insane

  • Yeah, it looks like we are plateauing this week.  Good news!  Hopefully we can start opening things up soon. But I don’t think it’s going back to normal any time soon.  I expect everyone will be social distancing until we have herd immunity.

    Plateauing?

    Quote from: dictionary.cambridge.org
Definition plateauing: 1. present participle of plateau 2. to reach a particular level and then stay the same

Look at the graph again! Mortality numbers in the U.S.A. in the first ten weeks of 2020 are much lower than in each of the past five years:

Why do you use the term "plateauing"?

Men are not bound, or able to read hearts; but when they see that someone is a heretic by his external works, they judge him to be a heretic pure and simple ... Jerome points this out. (St. Robert Bellarmine)

  • Because although deaths attributed to the virus are increasing, they are increasing at a slower rate.  That indicates the beginning of a plateau followed by a decrease.

    2 Corinthians 4:3-4

And if our gospel be also hid, it is hid to them that are lost, In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of unbelievers, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine unto them.
