Covid nonsense happened at my workplace (which I pushed out of). My manager's manager who was one step down from the executive board and had no medical qualifications whatsoever engaged in a blatant bid to look good to the executive board to say "hey I'm doing something! Don't forget about me!" and made everyone in my department install multiple covid-related apps, one of which was a tracking app to track potential exposure. Again no qualifications, he's not a doctor or scientist, not a statistician, he's never read a peer-review journal in his life.

The way he did it was even more atrocious. There was no meeting to discuss "why" these apps were needed or anything, he just stopped everyone on their way into the office and had them download it on their personal phones in order to continue into the building; a total violation of privacy. I deleted the apps from my phone afterwards except the one which I wasn't able to delete (necessary to get into the building) until I left. Corporate America is full of these deranged do-gooders that exploited covid in order to get noticed and make a name for themselves hoping to get a raise or promotion. I saw this pattern over and over again with people who clearly didn't have the basic intelligence to opine on science-related matters or issues of public safety. They would pitch one covid measure after the other as if it was a brain-storming session and none of them EVER provided a single argument or demonstration of critical thinking as to the risks or benefits in their proposal. It was just assumed that if someone said something "pro-covid" then that idea was inherently SCIENCE-BASED. What struck me as the most fascinating was that people who I had known for years never talked about anything science related but now all the sudden had an intense interest in the opinions of scientific authorities and conflated their own opinions as valuable extensions of science itself. Complete and utter mental retardation all around.
