This is old news, but I just learned about it. I bet many people would think this guy is the poster child for lapsed Irish Catholics. I remember years ago seeing Andy Richter, his sidekick, on Celebrity Jeopardy and the charity he chose to play for was the SPLC. I wonder about Richter's background since seeing that. How many white gentiles are there in the world that would think to give charity to the SPLC? Not many, I bet. Even most liberal gentiles wouldn't have the SPLC pop into their head. O'Brien has always been surrounded by Jєωs and is quite comfortable with them. I wonder about his wife as well. He even officiated a homo marriage on his show in 2011 between two Jєωs. So it doesn't come as a huge surprise when he admits he's half-Jєωιѕн and whines to this kid about anti-semitism.
While the film is loaded with funny, revealing and even the occasional tender moment -- O'Brien romping on the bed with his kids just before leaving for the tour, for example -- one of the funniest yet cringe-inducing moments is the exchange between O'Brien and a young Canadian fan who is expressing his disappointment with a venue in rather anti-Semitic terms.
O'Brien seems rather stunned by the remarks, and the kid doesn't seem to understand that using the word "Jєω" as a verb is offensive. When O'Brien responds that maybe he should dispense with the anti-Semitic language, the kid answers with "I love Mel Gibson," digging his hole even deeper.
