I think it's a hyperreality test - Will the narrative continue on its own without prodding? It seems to have so far. If they can weigh that vs the resistance in real time via analytics TPTB can make better decisions. They're figuring out what they can do right now.

Interesting.  They don’t mind letting some truth out and sometimes revel in rubbing our noses in it:  “Even when the truth comes out, we get away with it right in front of your face.”
