  • Catholic ‘seal of confession” threatened by California bill
Washington Times Posted On 11:50 am May 29, 2019

Feet of a person in a confession booth and the priest listening (shot in a medieval 17th century church)

Catholic priests in California would be legally obligated to report to police sɛҳuąƖ abuse confessions brought to them by fellow priests and other church employees if a bill quickly moving through the state legislature becomes law.  ...

Under Roman Catholic teachings, the sins confessed by a parishioner to a priest in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation are secret to all but God, who absolves the sins through the instrument of the priest.

Current California law respects the “seal of confession,” requiring any member of the clergy (rabbis, priests or ministers) to report suspected sɛҳuąƖ abuse of minors to authorities, except for suspicions raised via “penitential communication.”

The bill proposed by state Sen. Jerry Hill, San Francisco Democrat, would narrow that exemption for church employees, including priests, who admit to or suggest sɛҳuąƖ abuse sins during confession. ...

  • Mercy, How much can you trust a New Order marxist group!  Confessions are no good, then it would not surprise me that they have been tattling on us for decades!  As long as they are Marxist, they will get away with anything.

Goodness! After Christ's death, the Jєωs would pretended to be converted and they remained in their Jєωιѕн ways.

I question how many muslims have pretended to be catholics (new order) and we get a stab in our back, or a head chopped off.

Stay as far away from the dioceses as possible.

  • I have NEVER confessed to a NO - (priest).  I’ve confessed to an SSPX priest, an independent priest and a priest who adhered to the sedevacantist position.  The last 3 confessions AND absolutions were VALID.  Enough said.

  • Said unjust law must be summarily ignored.  And, were they real Catholics, the U.S. hierarchy should publicly state that no Catholic priest will comply, under pain of excommunication, lest people be deterred from the possibility of saving their souls in Confession.  If it means jail, then so be it.  There is no dilemma here.

  • This is a story about a bill introduced. It hasn't gone anywhere. There's no indication that a committee has even looked at the bill, let alone discussed it or voted on it.

Most bills die in committee. Many are as ridiculous as this one, and so burdened with obvious problems that they are going nowhere. Even good ideas take a lot of time to work out enough kinks to pass out of committee.

So until a bill looks like it will get out of committee, it's no more than one legislators crazy idea (that he probably got from a lobbyist, at that).

  • How would anyone but the priest know what has been confessed?

California is just trying to keep it’s status as the most vile state in the Union. New York is very, very close behind. On second thought, I think they’re neck and neck.
For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

Undoubtedly the authorities would send agents in their posing as penitents to test compliance.

  • In a traditional confession the priest doesn't know (for certain) who the penitent is, so how can he report the person?
Confessions are supposed to be anonymous

And they would undoubtedly target the more conservative priests among them and leave the crazy liberal heretics alone.

Communist priests have been disclosing confessions and blackmailing penitents.

Conservative priests have been silenced by communists especially priests who serve as confessors in seminaries.
Seminarians will confess that they are ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖs or murderers and/or communists, and the priest confessor must keep silent.
This has discouraged priests from hearing confessions.

Confessionals could be bugged, but perhaps have already been bugged for decades.

We must pray for our priests.
    Lord have mercy.
