I wouldn't have even known about this incident if not for this thread.

I no longer view the Catholic League with credibility, it's still entertaining at times but when the Catholic League gave carte blanche approval to that former Cardinal in Pittsburgh over the legitimate criticisms of a writer (sorry, I don't have the info in front of me at this time - sorry for being vague) and, to top all that off, the Catholic League never takes a stance on the truly important Catholic issues of this generation and that is the restoration or at least support of Tradition.

Refrain from buying Kelloggs if you want, I may actually do that too but I think we shouldn't let ourselves get worked up over something like this.  It was a stupid vulgar joke and it probably bombed even on the show.  

One last point, I think I would prefer the likes of Jon Stewart poking fun at Catholics than him actually approving of Catholics.  It brings me comfort to know that he's on the other side.

But he isn't poking fun at Catholics as a group, so it isn't given to you to shrug it off as if he were attacking you or me.  No, he is blaspheming the Mother of God, so we are morally obligated to stand up for Our Lady's honour.  Many are damned because of blasphemies and sacrileges against the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Jon Stewart is a blasphemer - and has been for years.  He's also a prime example of a deceiver since he has a different birth name - he operates professionally under a pseudonym.

And his argument is one of the kind the communists and hard lefties use all the time.  He calls his opponents (or anyone who disagrees) as an opinion of ignorance but how, pray tell, would forcing other people to pay for the birth control of immoral women be "enlightenment"?  He's never called on this.

I think there is a specific prayer but I'm at work and don't have my prayer book handy.

Would saying the traditional "Act of Reparation" suffice?

I'm not trying to be cute.  I just think prayer is a better response.

Pray for the souls in purgatory and pray for the souls who blaspheme.

I'm not sure.  I suppose one could say the three Hail Mary's in honour of the purity of Our Blessed Lady.  Maybe somebody else will have something more specific to the purpose.

Five First Saturdays Devotion

  Lucy’s confessor later gave her a series of questions about the apparitions at Pontevedra. One of the questions was: "Why five Saturdays and not nine or seven, in honor of the Sorrows of Our Lady?" Upon receiving the questions, she prayed to Our Lord to enlighten her with the answer, which a few days later she gave to her confessor. This is what she wrote:

    As I was in the chapel with Our Lord part of the night of May 29-30, 1930, and speaking to Our Lord about questions four and five, I suddenly found myself more intimately possessed by the Divine Presence, and if I am not mistaken, here is what was revealed to me:

    ‘My daughter, the reason is simple. There are five kinds of offenses and blasphemies uttered against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

        Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception.

        Blasphemies against Her perpetual Virginity.

        Blasphemies against Her divine Maternity, while refusing at the same time to recognize Her as Mother of men.

        The blasphemies of those who publicly seek to place in the hearts of children indifference or scorn, or even hatred towards this Immaculate Mother.

        The offenses of those who outrage Her directly in Her holy images.

    ‘There My daughter, is the reason why the Immaculate Heart of Mary asked Me to request this small act of reparation, and in consideration of it, to move My mercy to forgive souls who have had the misfortune to offend Her. As for you, seek unceasingly, through your prayers and sacrifices, to move My mercy with regard to these poor souls.’

       We have in this communication from Our Lord one of the most important ideas in the Message of Fatima: since God decided to manifest His plan of love, which is to grant His graces to men through the mediation of the Immaculate Virgin, it seems that their refusal to submit with docility to that Divine Will is a sin which particularly wounds His Heart and for which He no longer finds in Himself any inclination to forgive. That sin appears unpardonable, for there is not, as far as Our Savior is concerned, any crime more unpardonable than to scorn His Most Holy Mother and to outrage Her Immaculate Heart, which is the sanctuary of the Holy Ghost.


The Angel of Portugal taught the 3 children of Fatima these prayers:

‘My God, I believe in Thee, I adore Thee, I hope in Thee and I love Thee.
I ask pardon for all those who do not believe in Thee, do not adore Thee,
do not hope in Thee and do not love Thee.’

Lucy asked the Angel how they were to make sacrifices.

        The Angel replied, "Make of everything you can a sacrifice and offer it to God as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for the conversion of sinners. In this way, you will draw peace upon your country. I am its Guardian Angel, the Angel of Portugal. Above all, accept and bear with submission the sufferings which the Lord will send you."

  In the autumn of the same year, the children took their sheep to the same place where the first apparition took place. There in the blessed place of the Cabeço, they were reciting the prayer the Angel had taught them when above them an unknown light appeared. Lucy relates, "We got up again to see what was happening, and we saw the Angel again, who had in his left hand a Chalice over which was suspended a Host, from which some drops of Blood fell into the Chalice."

        Leaving the Chalice and the Host suspended in the air, he prostrated himself down to the earth near the children and repeated three times this prayer:

   Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, I adore You profoundly, and I offer You the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He, Himself is offended. And I draw upon the infinite merits of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that You might convert poor sinners.

        Then, getting up, the Angel took the Chalice and Host. He gave Lucy the Sacred Host on the tongue. Then while giving the Precious Blood from the Chalice to Francisco and Jacinta, he said:

        "Eat and drink the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, horribly outraged by ungrateful men. Make reparation for their crimes and console your God." Then, prostrating himself on the ground he repeated with the children three times the same prayer: Most Holy Trinity, etc., and disappeared.

        This final apparition of the Angel was clearly the summit of the three, as the children were graced to see the Precious Blood of Our Lord fall from the Sacred Host into the Chalice, and then receive Holy Communion from the hands of the Angel.

        Again, the need for converting poor sinners was a theme in this final apparition of the Angel. The prayer repeated by the Angel demonstrates that through our prayers, united with the infinite merits of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, sinners can be converted. Our prayers and sacrifices alone amount to very little; but when they are united to the merits of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts, they become infinitely valuable. Also emphasized was the need for reparation for the sins committed against God, by which He is constantly hurt and seeking consolation. In addition, the way the children received Holy Communion is particularly instructive for our time: they received Communion in the kneeling position, and the Sacred Host was given on the tongue.

In the past few years, through the efforts of Our Lady's Apostolate, a pious practice has developed of reciting one (or more) of these prayers on a daily basis. The following schedule of prayers is a suggestion only; please feel free to recite them in any order which you find most comforting and appropriate.

        My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You!

Tuesday

        O Jesus, it is for love of You, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Wednesday

        O my Jesus, forgive us, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are most in need.

Thursday

        O Most Holy Trinity, I adore You! My God, my God, I love You in the most Blessed Sacrament!

Friday

        Sweet Heart of Mary, be the salvation of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the whole world.

Saturday

        By your pure and Immaculate Conception, O Mary, obtain for me the conversion of Russia, Spain, Portugal, Europe and the entire world.

Sunday

        Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore You profoundly and I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the sacrileges, outrages and indifference by which He Himself is offended. And through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners."

It is noteworthy that several years after the Fatima apparitions, Pope Pius XI gave approval to the "Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus" which contains much of the same principles and terminology as the Fatima prayers:
