  • YouTube pulls ads from anti-vaccination videos and Pinterest blocks all vaccination searches amid measles outbreak

    (Getty Images)
Google-owned YouTube removed ads from videos promoting anti-vaccination rhetoric that violated its ad policies and Pinterest blocked all searches on vaccination to stem the flow of misinformation amid a measles outbreak in Washington state.
The tech giant said the anti-vax videos fall under its policy prohibiting the monetization of videos with "dangerous and harmful" content.

“We have strict policies that govern what videos we allow ads to appear on, and videos that promote anti-vaccination content are a violation of those policies. We enforce these policies vigorously, and if we find a video that violates them, we immediately take action and remove ads,” a YouTube spokesperson told Fox News via email.
YouTube has enforced this policy on videos promoting anti-vax content in the past.

YouTube is waging war against anti-vax content in a number of ways. Besides demonetizing the videos, the platform also introduced new information panels on anti-vaccine videos that link out to the Wikipedia page for "vaccine hesitancy," referred to as one of the top 10 global threats of 2019 by the World Health Organization.
YouTube also announced in January that it was tweaking its algorithms to recommend fewer conspiracy videos. The ubiquitous video platform, which users upload 400 hours of content to per minute, has been slammed by critics for providing a haven to bad actors and conspiracy theorists. In January 2018, YouTube established more stringent criteria for monetization on the platform by setting a higher bar for channels in terms of subscribers and watch time.
A recent YouTube search for the phrase "are vaccines safe" pulled up results from Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Cleveland Clinic, UCLA Health, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the CDC and several mainstream news outlets.
Last week, BuzzFeed News found that while YouTube tends to return authorized sources for queries such as "are vaccines safe," the platform's Up Next algorithm would frequently suggest anti-vaccination videos as follow-up recommendations. In response to inquiries from BuzzFeed News, several advertisers pulled their ads from the videos.

Pinterest took the step of blocking all vaccine-related searchers on its platform.
Social media platforms have taken a range of different steps to slow the spread of vaccine disinformation.
Pinterest, which has 250 million monthly active users, blocked all searches for vaccines or vaccinations last week, applying its health misinformation policy to pins from community members and advertisements.
"We want Pinterest to be an inspiring place for people, and there's nothing inspiring about misinformation. That's why we continue to work on new ways of keeping misleading content off our platform and out of our recommendations engine," a spokesperson told Fox News via email.

Facebook and Google came under fire last week for not doing enough to stop anti-vax content. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) sent a letter to both companies, urging them to take action against misinformation regarding vaccines.
"The algorithms which power these services are not designed to distinguish quality information from misinformation or misleading information, and the consequences of that are particularly troubling for public health issues," Schiff wrote in his letter

  • I feel like we're losing this battle.

Countless youtube channels, which mock the Left, entitled parents, SJWs, snowflakes, and countless other bad things are nevertheless VERY HARSH on parents choosing to not vaccinate their children.

In other words, my belief that vaccination is harmful to babies is about as popular as my belief that the "Holocaust" is a hoax.

  • It sure looks like the truth about vaccinations will be squashed by high-tech.
However, as the number of Autistic children increases, the momentum should
start to swing to the other side (against vaccinations).
    .
The problem is that by the time enough people wake up, it may be too late.
Can you imagine 25% of children being Autistic ?  Life will be very strange.
    .
Vaccines bring in so much money to the pharmaceutical companies, they
cannot afford to let it stop.  The government prevents them from being
sued.  The media keeps saying that there is no link between vaccines and
Autism and BTW there is a new outbreak of measles in town.
    .
There is another movie coming out this year ... Vaxxed II.
    .
But I don't see much hope.  Vaccinations are part of the modern religion:
SCIENCE.  Man has created science to replace God.
    .
We've been told that vaccines prevent diseases since 1934.  People just
have a knee-jerk reaction when you are against vaccinations.  It's like
    being against good health.
    .
Autism is being glorified in the movies.  Watch "The Accountant".  I met
a young woman who thinks having an Autistic child would be cool.

  • I know a woman with a son who became autistic at 18 months after his shots. He's now 18, and will never live independently. It's a life sentence.

Oddly, I have heard conservative pundits presenting anti-vaxers as being "idiot liberals" but this is not the case at all. While there are plenty of liberal anti-vaxers, I know of a good number of Traditional Catholics who do not vaccinate.

  • My biology teacher said people trying to shut anti-vaxxers up are often disingenuous in that they describe the vaccine and how it must be safe yada yada, when in reality it's what they store the vaccine in to keep it alive(as it's just a virus, it should natually die very fast without a host) that is suspected to be causing autism.

  • If the vaccines are as effective as they claim, then what do the vaccinated have to fear from the unvaccinated?

    It's all about control.

Well I'm not pro-vaccine, but the idea here is that unvaccinated people would provide a medium for viruses to survive and mutate to become different enough that the vaccine-induced antibodies no longer work.

The science behind vaccines(as in the weakened viruses) themselves is fairly simple and solid, the risk is that the chemical preservatives used to keep them alive have been shown to cause autism. Pro-vaxxers insist they won't cross the blood brain barrier and so on and so forth, but the jury is certainly still out on that.

  • It's all about destroying the population of the US and other countries.
It's part of the Eugenics program.  It's the adjuvants (i.e. Mercury, Aluminum, etc.)
that cause demyelinating of the nerves.  Autistic children have more Aluminum
    in their brains.
    .
Those children that aren't obviously Autistic, are getting MBR (minimal brain
damage), but don't get diagnosed for this.  It's manifesting in the test scores,
which decrease year after year.  The book on this subject is, "Vaccines, Social
Violence, and Criminology (the American Asault on the Human Brain)".
    .
The most informed and outspoken guy is Dr Russel Blaylock, MD.  Watch his video:
    .

    .
The other informed (i.e. expert court witness) person is Dr Rebecca Carley:
    .

    .
There is a religious aspect to the vaccination program. One of the goals is to
make the human being incapable of having a spiritual life.
    .
But this topic is how unpopular anti-vaxxers are.  Well, as long as people watch
CNN, MSNBC, ABC, FOX, and every other main stream media, then anti-vaxxers
    will remain unpopular.

not sure what you mean behind the science is fairly simple and solid, there is no proof vaccines have helped with the decrease in diseases, they have actually increased the rates...the jury is out, it's part of population control

It never hit me, but I think you are in fact right. They're actually glorifying autism. I keep seeing this ad about some autistic doctor kid. For the longest time they were posting this meme thing (wtf facts sorta thing) where they say Albert Einstein was autistic. I'm sure there's quite a bit I've also missed just because I didn't see the trend. In ten years is having an autistic child going to be on par with having a gay child?

In the CNN story about the Measles outbreak, I had to laugh. Read the correction at the end!

Correction: This article previously included a photograph of a child with a rash linked to a vaccination. The image has been removed.

    Don't choose, then.
Find a doctor who will examine your children and perhaps give you a medical exemption from vaccinations.

We are pretty lucky to have a doctor like that in our area.
The only downside is how crazy strict they are about making all the well visits

  • Yes, all the doctors in our area require all child well visits be made or they drop you from their practice. I found out the hard way.
