Anything on or in 'the media' (mainstream journalism, print or broadcast), is, from that fact alone, so highly suspect, that it is, at best, a waste of your time; but often very harmful.  It seems Glen Beck, whom I've never seen nor heard, is no exception. His partisans don't see that he's mixing truth with lies. When people can't recognize the enemy, that's bad.

American Free Press, a subscription alternative newspaper, has some good information.  But they have a misguided, Protestant, perspective: i.e.,  if we go back to the way the Founding Fathers set things up, then we'll be okay.  How blind.

    I'll say.

I don't know what Glenn Beck looks like, nor have I ever heard his show.

If either he or his cronies were any good, they wouldn't have gotten as far as they have.  They would have been crushed.

Blond, looks like one of those kids in school that was high strung and likely, got one too many wedgies..type that would get worked up, wigg out and cry in corner.....now, he gets to posture on Faux "News" and obsess about the Founders...

..."I cannot understand Glenn Beck's constant praise of Abraham Lincoln and why he would hold his rally in front of a memorial dedicated to the original white supremacist who hated 'the Africans', wanted all of them deported, spit on the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and damn near destroyed the Union. How can Glenn Beck be so blind? "

I feel the same way about Pope Pius IX and his Club Infallible supporters.  He was also a one man wrecking crew . He derailed 1800 years of tradition and claimed his words as infallible, while cursing any challengers.

So Pope Pius IX was a despiser of Sacred Tradition?

The Vatican Council 1 was a false council, and the dogma of Papal Infallibility is perfidious error?

None of the popes after after Pope Pius IX were  true popes, since they all upheld his perfidious error of papal infallibility?

    What are your answers Classicom?

  •  Without this cloak of diabolic confusion labeled "papal infallibility", you would have to judge each pope with the eyes of tradition and scripture. This cloud 9 confusion of Pius IX has provided cover for runnaway pedophelia/sodomy/sex abuse in the Church.  Just ask anybody from Ireland.

Matthew 23:9 Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven.

  • But, Classicom,

How would it wash, to have as the Vicar of Christ on Earth, a man fallible in matters of faith and morals, when speaking as Christ's Vicar?

Also, how would you support (suggesting material to read) the assertion that Pius IX  'derailed 1800 years of tradition'?

    And please answer:

Do you think Pope Pius IX was a despiser of Sacred Tradition?

Do you think the Vatican Council 1 was a false council, and the dogma of Papal Infallibility is perfidious error?

Do you think that none of the popes after after Pope Pius IX were  true popes, since they all upheld his perfidious error of papal infallibility?

  • RC, I have an irrelevant question for you. Do you believe that Adam was buried at Calvary beneath where Christ died on the Cross and that as Christ was being crucified, His most precious blood soaked into the ground and spilled onto Adam's skull?

I do not know about the Precious Blood soaking right into the ground and spilling onto Adam's skull. But I have heard about the common location before. It is depicted in some Catholic art. I happen to have an edifying representation of it, and it seems to me that it would be a fitting occurrence that was providential.

It is legitimate pious belief that one may hold. Of course a person may also legitimately hold that (for whatever reason) he thinks it did not happen.

Just out of curiosity do you mind me asking, why you enquired about it of me here at this juncture?

  • Because RC you have earned the respect of many here, I too love to read your notes, they are clear, logical and make sense.

I feel as you do about Adams skull, it is a pious belief that I hold dear, but not dogmatic.

  • I just asked because your avatar reminded me of another crucifixion scene I saw once which depicts Christ's blood soaking into the ground and pouring onto Adam's skull, and for some reason I wondered if you believed so. I think it is a wonderful legend and would like it to be true, similar to the story of that bird that saw Christ suffering and had pity on Him, and plucked one of the thorns out of Christ's head and was soaked with blood, and that ever since, all of the other birds of that kind have had a patch of red where that bird was soaked with Christ's blood.

  • Thanks you for the kind words, Myrna!

    Matto and Myrna,

Yes, it is wonderful legend. God has a way of arranging everything in a wonderfully fitting manner. Jesus died on that spot for reasons that God ordained from all eternity. It did not just happen there by coincidence, or by chance, or by entirely human choice.

We do not know all of the reasons for all of God's choices yet, and even in eternity we will never be capable of entirely understanding the Infinite.

I love this passage from the Preface of The Holy Cross at Mass:

....Jesus Christ, our Lord....who on the tree of the cross didst give salvation unto mankind; that, whence death arose, thence life also might rise again; and that he who be a tree once overcame might, likewise, by a tree be overcome, through Jesus Christ, our Lord..

That is another example of how God chose to arrange things in a fitting manner. He could have chosen to become man in any era, by any method, and for Jesus to die in any manner of His choosing, or even for Him not to die.

But God chose that exact location at that exact point in time for more reasons than we will ever know in this life.

Until we see the infinite God with our eyes and intellects in the next life, we can only barely begin to understand things about the order and fittingness of His entire creation (not just earthly creation).  The way it all fits into the plan of His infinite love is also a relection of His infinite beauty and order.

  • Fra Angelico!  I like him very much.  Always sneaks himself into his paintings!!

I have also heard that about Calvary -- can't remember where I read it, but it has been in a few different books
