All the numbers are fed into a centralized super-computer
.The computer that generates the winning numbers knows which numbers have been bought on tickets??! In any case, yes, the lotto is definitely an idiot tax. I think they pay out what -- a third? a quarter? -- of the receipts in prizes. Whereas private (non-governmental) gambling places are required to pay out something like 98% of the receipts and keep only 1-2% for their own overhead and profit.(P.S. I've never gambled so I'm not totally sure about those figures, but that's what I've heard over the years ...)
