Same thing happened with Nαzι Germany... surrounded by paper tigers apparently (and those like Poland, France etc were very far behind and fell quickly, same with the USSR at the beginning)... then the Blitzkrieg stalled at the Battle of Britain and Stalingrad and it was the beginning of the end for them.
