  • With the onslaught of black vagrancy and violence in the midst of the cops vs. criminals street war going on right now there is this overwhelming tendency to cheer the police. I realise there are good working-class cops out there who are just doing their jobs but using my own personal expierence with being around police every day I can tell you a little secret most people ignore when they cheer the cops on these days. It is a fact that cops are known for police brutality by beating people beyond what is necessary. It is also a fact that police will often make trumped-up charges against people to make themselves feel superior to you and I. It is also a fact that cops will constantly "use their muscle" against ordinary people just so they can feel superior. Now none of what I am saying here is written in defense of black criminals who have broken the law and I absolutely support law and order however I also want to make my position clear that those people out there who think all cops are good people and that cops should be cheered on as bastions of law and order are naive people who do not know the nature of certain cops who will "hide behind the badge."

  • Define "decent person".
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • As bad as many cops are, I think they are far better than the criminals.

Well that was mentioned in the thread where I said, "This thread is not written in defense of black criminals who break the law..."

  • Are cops decent people?  I think everybody on here knows I'm not taking up for a bunch of black thugs.  But 50/50 would be a somewhat optimistic response to your question.  I perceive that a large percentage do engage in brutality--fudge on testimony--intimidate & lie during investigations--fudge on evidence.

I perceive that their training is purposefully instilling an "us vs. them" mindset and a "win at all cost/ends justifies the means" mentality.  I perceive that the "war on drugs" and "war on terror" were designed to get cops accustomed to running rough-shod over people's rights and to desynthesize the masses to the erosion of their rights.

The prevalence of these bad characteristics vary from dept to dept.  But, overall, I think in a govt-contrived SHTF scenario designed to oppress the masses, many/most cops & depts will be the masses' worst nightmare.

  • With the War on Terror especially, the Patriot Act was something out of George Orwell's 1984. As usual a Democratic Congress refused to have the gonads to impeach Bush over that and instead resorted to cowardice. Now I think some of what you said is a little far-fetched but yes there are some cops out there who will definitely beat you beyond a pulp, who will make trumped-up charges just so they can get their quota, use their muscle, etc. I know of two cops, one is a good friend who is retired from the K-9 unit, the other is a former traffic cop who is now over other people as a manager and constantly uses his muscle to harass and show his superiority over his workers. I agree with you that the War on Terror, just like the War on Drugs, has lost its original purpose and has instead eroded the freedoms of people and grown the Leviathan State and by the way the erosion of freedom under the War on Terror started with Bush, not Obama, just so people know (although Obama has also eroded freedom under the War on Terror).

  • You're right about Bush.  He largely made Obama possible.

  • Of course you'll never convince Republicans of that since they think he was a "great President." :laugh1:

Of course but what did they ever say publically against him during his Presidency other than that he was asleep at the wheel during Katrina?

  • By Republicans do you mean Republican politicians (congressmen, senators), or Republican government workers or plain Republican voters, or all of these - any Republican citizen?

When you consider that the vote to go into Iraq was (by both parties) 99-1, they probably thought he was a demi-god. It wasn't until his second term and the economic crash that the tables turned.

The Iraq Resolution passed 297-133 in the House and 77-23 in the Senate.

Perhaps you're thinking of Afghanistan Resolution, which passed 420-1 in the House and 98-0 in the Senate.
