  • Interesting, but not really true.  What is described here as anarchists is really only possible in heaven.

True, and this is why Libertarianism -- as espoused by people like Lew Rockwell -- is a hopelessly idealistic ideology that implicitly (or explicitly) denies the reality of fallen human nature. In real life, anarchy looks like Mad Max.

The chart is interesting, however, and I think accurate for the most part, accepting that it paints in pretty broad strokes. I think that it is very true that the difference between modern "conservatives" and modern liberals is very small, and the modern liberals are quickly moving towards the full-on socialism on the chart.

In my view, "minarchism" reflects the purposes of government described by St. Thomas Aquinas and is why I tend towards Libertarians in modern politics. The Libertarian Party of Canada leaders I've spoken to admit they're not a true libertarian party and that they are basically minarchists.

  • Actually, I had never heard of the term, "minarchist" before.  When I looked it up, I found it to be neologism that does not appear in dictionaries yet.  Frankly, I think what this diagram describes as "Classical Liberalism" to be a morally acceptable level of government.
