Contrary to popular belief about World War II which has this idealistic vision of Britain's ally America coming to rescue Great Britain and help her advance to her most glorious hour America in fact in the long run during World War II proved to be far more an opponent rather than an ally for Great Britain. During the Lend-Lease Agreement FDR ordered the British to give him all the British assets which included their gold reserves. FDR in fact shook Britain down for every dime during her darkest hour and prospered on Britain's misfortune. While Churchill had this glowing thought of a "special relationship" between the two English-speaking peoples and that the British would be Greeks to Americans as the Romans America instead used World War II to have both Germany and Britain both exhaust themselves so that America would come in and rule the world. After the war Britain would lose its empire, sink into socialism, have to rely on Marshall Aid assistance and cede the decisions of the world, once given only to the English, to the Americans.

Again another British writer AJP Taylor: "The war gave FDR, if one can read his devious mind, a way to see both Britain and Germany wear eachother down. Then America would step in to rule the world."

What is so worth saving about an empire that persecuted Catholics?

The Islamic Golden Era also had a large empire that persecuted Christians and yet it produced a great culture. The Roman Empire persecuted Christians from the death of Christ to Constantine and yet it is thanks to the Greeks and Romans that we have the Western civilization we have today.

In regards to the British I am well aware that the sins of the British Empire are bloody but then again so are all empires. I am aware of the opium wars in China and the cold indifference to the Irish under the potato famine but consider also that the British were the first to end slavery, take up arms against Napoleon's dictatorship and empire, and hold on through its darkest hour in 1940. Also consider that unlike the American Empire which no one seems to love the former subjects of the British Empire still have the leftovers of the imperial system in place like their laws, uniforms, etc. It was thanks to Britain that India is a large democracy and that South Africa is the most successful country in Africa.

If we look at the American Empire however we see an empire that is even larger than the empire under Victoria and arouses no love but hatred as people see America as a decadent, dying nation.
