O.k., so if you accept the premise of cultural relativity, then living in a patriarchal culture would be oppressive for women and being married would be slavery.

Of course, you would also accept moral relativism, which should make you shrug, "so what?" :kick-can: But then, you might want power. They say, once virtue is gone, it's all that's left to strive for. Still, I suppose you could just pursue pleasure.

I think part of what you are talking about is a regime, that appeals to vice. In doing so, the regime gains the support of a group. In this case women, but that isn't all women, it's just a percentage and their individual support is to one degree or another, but that's enough, to make things pretty bad. They are appealing to vice, after all. It's like letting a bunch of vampire bats loose in your house :scared2:

For example, you get these women who go around preying on men and the regime, at times and in ways, enables them. Thus, rendering men, since the regime is so much more powerful than some puny individual man, powerless against some woman, who just wants to pick on him, because she gets to be stronger than some "big strong" guy, which just appeals to her pride. And of course, the regime, often using the media, tries to deny that man any sympathy, which makes the girl who is preying on him, feel like the regime is really a good "big brother" to have around. So long as she's giving into her pride. Once she wants virtue, then she'll turn on the regime too and then they'll have to put her up against a wall and shoot her or put up with her wearing modest clothes and acting all demure.

Catherine MacKinnon writes a lot of nonsense and she shouldn't be taken seriously.

If you attend a university where she has tenure, just steer clear of her.

People who hold onto these beliefs about the patriarchy, and by this I mean people who truly believe this pablum are mentally ill and they can't really be cured. They are to be avoided.

Some people who to to university and aren't sure of themselves may for a while espouse these nonsensical ideas but romance brings them back to reality. Mentally healthy people don't hold fast to the ideas of Catherine MacKinnon for any length of time.
