  • The Archdiocese of St. Louis has filed suit to block a new city ordinance that would make it illegal to discriminate on the basis of “reproductive health decisions.”
The ordinance, which was enacted in February over the strenuous opposition of Archbishop Robert Carlson, would make women who are actively considering abortions a “protected class” under civil-rights law. Thus an employer who refused to hire a woman because she expressed her plan to abort would be in violation, as would a school that refused to hire a teacher who supported abortion.
“Let me be perfectly clear: The Archdiocese of St. Louis will not comply with his ordinance,” Archbishop Carlson told a press conference. He described the measure as “a marker of our city’s embrace of the culture of death.”
In a federal lawsuit, the archdiocese is asking the court to halt enforcement of the ordinance immediately, and to declare the measure unconstitutional. The archbishop emphasized, however, that the archdiocese would not comply with the rule in any case.

  • A Dutch bishop has withdrawn his permission for an ecuмenical prayer service to mark “Pink Saturday.”
Bishop Gerard de Korte of Hertogenbosch had originally given permission for the service to take place in the cathedral of St. John, with the proviso that nothing should be said or done that would contradict the position of the Catholic Church regarding ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity. However, after hearing protests from the faithful the bishop reversed his decision. The level of protests, Bishop de Korte said, indicated that “the good relations within the religious community is at stake.”
The “Pink Saturday” prayers service will be held on June 22 at a nearby Protestant church.

  • Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois, has instructed his pastors that they should not administer the sacraments to Catholics who are engaged in same-sex marriages.
In a formal decree circulated to the clergy of the diocese—which promptly leaked to the secular media—Bishop Paprocki said that since the government now offers legal recognition to same-sex marriages, the Church “has not only the authority, but the serious obligation, to affirm its authentic teaching on marriage and to preserve and foster the sacred value of the married state.”
Toward that end, the bishop said, Catholics should not participate in same-sex marriage ceremonies, nor should those events take place in churches or on parish property, the bishop said. Catholics who are legally married to same-sex partners should not be lectors or extraordinary ministers of Eucharist; they should not be admitted to RCIA classes or Confirmation programs; they should not be sponsors or godparents.
The bishop instructed his priests not to administer Communion to people who are engaged in same-sex marriages, nor to allow their funerals, unless there is an indication that the individuals have repented and accepted the Church’s teaching. If informed that a parishioner is involved in a same-sex union, Bishop Paprocki directed his priests to “address these concerns privately with the persons in such circuмstances, calling them to conversion.”
The bishop said that children living with same-sex couples could be baptized if there is a reasonable expectation that they will be raised in the Catholic faith. Similarly, children living with same-sex couples may be enrolled in Catholic schools, he said—but the “parents and those who legally take the place of parents” should be advised that the children will be taught according to the Church’s understanding of marriage.

What do you credit this clown with resisting?  This make-believe-bishop is hardly a profile in courage.  Rather than citing coming to his senses as the reason for backing out of Fag Day festivities, he says "the good relations within the religious community is at stake.”  So he is doing the right thing, but hardly for the right reason.  As far as resistance, he doesn't have the backbone to resist squat.  Sounds like he should be called a RESISTED person (not bishop if he was concecrated via the bastardized Montini rite--though most people are sticking their heads in the sand to cope with what that means as to Bergoglio question) because he was so firmly resisted that had to abandon his liberal initiatives.

  • Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis (1873-1962), who suffered intense persecution from the Soviet regime during his 33 years as a bishop, was beatified as a martyr at the cathedral in Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital, on June 25.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided at the Mass of beatification.
Ordained to the priesthood in 1900, Archbishop Matulionis ministered in Latvia and Saint Petersburg, Russia. Imprisoned by the Soviet regime from 1923 to 1925, he was secretly ordained an auxiliary bishop in 1929 at Pope Pius XI’s request.
Imprisoned again from 1929 to 1933, he spent most of the next decade after his release ministering in Lithuania. In 1943, Pope Pius XII named him bishop of Kaisiadorys.
Following the Soviet occupation of Lithuania, Bishop Matulionis was again imprisoned for ten years. After his release, he was confined to an apartment. St. John XXIII honored him with the personal title of archbishop in February 1963; six months later, the prelate was killed.
“Let us praise God for the witness of this strenuous defender of the faith and of the dignity of man,” Pope Francis said following his June 25 Angelus address. “Let us greet him, and all the Lithuanian population, with applause.”

  • Cardinal Anders Arborelius of Stockholm is not ready to advocate the sharing of Communion between Catholics and Lutherans.
The new Swedish cardinal—the first-ever member of the College of Cardinals from the predominantly Lutheran country—spoke about the differences between Catholic and Lutheran understandings of the Eucharist in an interview with John Allen of Crux. He observed that “in the Lutheran Church, there are different visions on the Eucharist. Some members are very close to us,... while others have a very different outlook.”
    Cardinal Arborelius said:
    Quote
Many in the Lutheran Church now say, “We have come to an agreement, now we must celebrate the Eucharist together.” Whereas we have to say “No, we haven’t come so far in our mutual dialogue,” and, of course, this will create a kind of frustration among many of the Lutherans that we cannot possibly celebrate together.

  • A prominent media priest who criticized Bishop Thomas Paprocki’s restatement of norms regarding church funerals “gets a lot wrong,” the bishop said in a response noting the importance of repentance for everyone.
Bishop Paprocki explained his decree in a July 9 video on the Diocese of Springfield’s website. He reminded everyone with a ministry in the Church that “while being clear and direct about what the Church teaches, our pastoral ministry must always be respectful, compassionate and sensitive to all our brothers and sisters in faith, as was the ministry of Christ Jesus, the Good Shepherd and our everlasting model for ministry,” the bishop said.
“People with same-sex attraction are welcome in our parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois as we repent our sins and pray for God to keep us in his grace,” he said.
On June 12 the Bishop of Springfield had issued an internal decree discussing same-sex marriage and pastoral issues in his diocese. The decree was leaked.
Father James Martin, S.J., an editor-at-large of America Magazine, had claimed on Twitter that the bishop’s diocesan norms regarding a ban on church funeral rites only focused on “LGBT people” and would not be applied to others living in public sin, such as a man and a woman in an irregular union, or private sin, such as users of birth control. Fr. Martin suggested such a focus constituted unjust discrimination.
Bishop Paprocki had said his decree was “totally consistent with Catholic teaching.” The decree was “a rather straightforward application of existing Catholic doctrine and canon law” in a new situation where same-sex couples are receiving a legal marital status in civil law, contrary to Catholic teaching.
“Father Martin gets a lot wrong in those tweets, since canon law prohibits ecclesiastical funeral rites only in cases of ‘manifest sinners’ which gives ‘public scandal,’ and something such as using birth control is a private matter that is usually not manifest or made public,” the bishop said.
Bishop Paprocki rejected the characterization of his decree as focusing on “LGBT people.” Rather, he said, it focused on “so-called same-sex marriage, which is a public legal status.”
“No one is ever denied the sacraments or Christian burial for simply having a ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ orientation,” the bishop continued. “Even someone who had entered into a same-sex marriage can receive the sacraments and be given ecclesiastical funeral rites if they repent and renounce their marriage.”
The bishop said the priest-commentator missed the key phrase in the decree: the section saying that ecclesiastical funeral rites are to be denied to those in same-sex marriages “unless they have given some signs of repentance before their death.”
“This is a direct quote from canon 1184 of the Code of Canon Law, which is intended as a call to repentance,” Bishop Paprocki said.
He cited Christ's public proclamation in the Gospel of Mark: “This is the time of fulfilment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
The bishop further explained the Church’s response to church burial rites.
“This does not mean that unrepentant manifest sinners will simply be refused or turned away,” he said. “Even in those cases where a public Mass of Christian Burial in church cannot be celebrated because the deceased person was unrepentant and there would be public scandal, the priest or deacon may conduct a private funeral service, for example, at the funeral home.”
Bishop Paprocki did find a point in the priest’s criticism.
“Father Martin’s tweets do raise an important point with regard to other situations of grave sin and the reception of Holy Communion. He is right that the Church’s teaching does not apply only to people in same-sex marriages,” he said.
Citing canon law, the bishop said everyone conscious of grave sin should not receive Holy Communion without first going to confession and receiving absolution. This is relevant to everyone who has committed a grave sin, whether it is sɛҳuąƖ sin, missing Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation without grave cause, procuring an abortion, or having attempted remarriage after a divorce without obtaining a decree of nullity.
The bishop noted that a couple who agrees to live as brother and sister in an irregular union, if there is no public scandal, could receive Holy Communion after repenting, going to confession, and amending their lives. This similarly would apply to two men or two women who live chastely with each outher.
Bishop Paprocki’s decree drew significant media coverage.
“The fact that there would be such an outcry against this decree is quite astounding and shows how strong the LGBT lobby is both in the secular world as well as within the Church,” he said.
Citing Pope Francis’ comments against judgementalism, the bishop noted that the Pope had warned against any form of lobbies, including a “gαy lobby.”
Burial rites were only one part of the June 12 decree, which concerned topics including the use of Catholic facilities and diocesan personnel in same-sex ceremonies, as well as the response to people in same-sex unions and to any children who live with such couples and are presented for the sacraments or Catholic education.

  • The Bishop of Cordoba, Demetrio Fernández González, is “waging holy war” against Muslims and lefties who want to wrest control of a cathedral away from the Catholic Church — who stole it from the Moors 800 years ago.
The bitter fight has broken out over the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba in Andalusia, in southern Spain.
The consecrated site is believed to have originally been a Christian church dedicated to Saint Vincent the third.
The city was seized in 711 by a Moorish army, and it became a provincial capital.
But it was recaptured from the Moors in 1236 during the Spanish Reconquista by King Ferdinand III of Castile, following a siege lasting several months, and the Mosque was converted to a Roman Catholic cathedral.
González has now claimed opponents now “want to reverse the Reconquista.”
González said: “For eight centuries we have lived peacefully with the cathedral in Catholic hands.”
“But right now, the idea the Muslims have had, this dream that they’ve had to somehow take back the cathedral, is being helped by the political left.”
“So it is a kind of alliance coming in from the left.
“The politicians realize that the cathedral is the property of the Church, but what they would like is for it to become public property.”
“So it would be a type of expropriation.”
González was speaking at a meeting in Washington DC, organized by the Center for Religious Freedom of the Hudson Institute.
Fernández added that sharing the cathedral with Muslims would not be possible, “neither for the Catholics nor for the Muslims.”
A church dedicated to St Vincent of Saragossa occupied the site and was razed by the Moors in 711.
Cordoba was governed by direct Moorish rule, with commanders establishing themselves within the city.
The city became a provincial capital in 716, and was subordinate to the Caliphate of Damascus.

What does their "visions on the Eucharist" have to do with anything?
"I say if you want to receive communion in the Catholic Church you should become Catholic."  Why is anything else even being discussed?

It's modern ecuмenism, which is an error, and this is the erroneous thinking that results from the error.
    .
This is why Vat.II should be abrogated, and Vat.I re-convened to fix this false ecuмenism and syncretism heresy.

  • A Spanish state prosecutor has dismissed a ‘hate crime’ complaint against the Archbishop of Granada after an LGBT activist group claimed he had preached hate against transgender people in a homily.
According to EFE news agency, the case was thrown out because the Granada prosecutor’s office could not find sufficient cause to bring legal action against Archbishop Francisco Javier Martínez of Granada.
In February, the activist group “Observatory against LGBT-phobia” filed a complaint against the archbishop, claiming that he “promoted hate speech against LGBT persons” in a homily in which he lamented the introduction of gender ideology to young children in school.
“There is a short-sightedness and lack of intelligence” in introducing this ideology to children, the archbishop said in his homily at the time.
“We are equal in dignity...but we are not interchangeable,” he said of biological differences between men and women.
In their complaint, the activist group asked the judge to prosecute the archbishop “in an express and exemplary way, in order to put an end to this unjust scourge of hate speech.”
The prosecution said the case was dismissed in part because of freedom of speech found in the Spanish constitution, according to EFE.
A similar complaint was filed against another archbishop in 2016, when feminist and LGBT activist groups accused Cardinal Antonio Cañizares, Archbishop of Valencia, of hate speech following a homily in which he warned of attacks against the family that came from “movements and actions of the gαy lobby, ideologies such as radical feminism or the most insidious of all, gender ideology.”
A court in Valencia dismissed the case in September 2016, citing the cardinal’s freedom of speech.

  • A Chilean cardinal has warned politicians that if they support the legalization of abortion, they must not receive the Eucharist until they make a public act of repentance.
In a letter published in the daily El Mercurio, Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez refers to an effort to legalize abortion as an “atrocity.” The cardinal cites the Church’s clear teaching that support for abortion is a grave evil, and notes that the Code of Canon Law bars from Communion all those who “obstinately persevere in manifest grave sin.”
Cardinal Medina—who was prefect of the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship before his retirement in 2002 at the age of 75—said that a politician who supports legal abortion “should not receive the vote of any Christian.”
Because a politician’s support for legislation is a public matter, the cardinal argues, politicians must make a public sign of repentance in order to be restored to communion with the Church. This public repentance, he says, is “indispensable for their eternal salvation.” Politicians who have not repented after supporting abortion should not be allowed a Catholic funeral, he writes.

  • Archbishop Denis Hart of Melbourne, Australia said that he would go to jail rather than obey a law requiring him to divulge the contents of a sacramental confession.
The archbishop was responding to a recommendation from the royal commission on sɛҳuąƖ abuse, which had urged Australian states to implement new laws requiring priests to disclose reports of sɛҳuąƖ abuse that they heard in confessions.
Archbishop Hart stressed that the Church could not accept such legislation. “I believe that this is an absolutely sacrosanct communication of the highest order,” he said. He added that he would “go to extreme lengths outside the confessional” to ensure that sɛҳuąƖ abuse is reported to proper authorities.
A popular priest of the Melbourne archdiocese promptly contradicted the archbishop’s stand, calling for a “redefinition of the confessional seal.” Father Bob Maguire said: “Everything should be resubmitted in the post-modern age.” He added: “I want the bishops and the royal commission to tell me what to do.”
