    Six in ten now approve
Poll finds big gains for same-sex marriage in California

By Mark DiCamillo and Mervin Field

The latest Field Poll finds voter approval of same-sex marriage to be at the highest level ever recorded during thirty-five years of polling on the issue in California.

Currently 59% of this state’s registered voters favor allowing same-sex couples to marry and have regular marriage laws apply to them, while 34% disapprove. Another 7% do not express an opinion.

This division of sentiment is nearly a complete reversal of the findings from the first time The Field Poll began measuring Californians’ attitudes toward same-sex marriage in 1977. At that time, 59% disapproved and 28% were in favor…

Very large or sizeable majorities of sub-groups of the state’s electorate now supports allowing same-sex marriage. These include voters in each of the four major regions of the state, Democrats, non-partisans, middle-of-the-road and liberal voters, young and middle age groups, men and women, white non-Hispanics, married as well as single voters, Catholics, voters affiliated with non-Christian religions, and those with no religious preference.

Sentiment on this issue is mixed among voters age 65 and older, African-Americans and Protestants.

Republicans and political conservatives are the only major blocs where majorities are opposed to gαys and lesbians marrying.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • I find it unbelievable that people are so pliable.

This is why Catholic tradition is not in good shape, no matter what the numbers seem to say.

These attitudes, these social influences are heavily affecting Trads, trad women in particular.  Women cannot easily resist the herd mentality.

  • Society is liberalizing and becoming more godless very quickly, quicker than even I thought in some cases. No doubt that the increases in technology through which pop-culture works has furthered this cause.

In 2000, California voted against gαy marriage 61-39, in 2008, 52-48, and if a vote were held this year, I don't think that a referendum against gαy marriage would pass.
    Pray for me, always.

  • Come on guys, the whole point of these polls has been to take them repeatedly, and put them out in front of the media every chance they get, so that they send out the message, "everyone thinks this is okay." Its a tool to discourage people from wanting to stand up against this depravity. One of the greatest advantages the ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖs have on their side, at least for now, is time. As long as modern man continues to reject God, things will move in their favor, and that's what these polls show.

This seems to be quite a stretch, but once again, you are so general its hard to pinpoint what exactly you're saying, apart from clarifying your distrust of women. Women cannot easily resist the herd mentality, as long as there are not men there to support them. So its a two way street. If a man can not relate to a woman, and establish a bond where she will follow him, even against the 'herd', she may indeed go with the flow. But I don't think Trad women are affected by the herd mentality; not if they're sincere, which I think most are.

  • I'm sure the polls are often doctored or unrepresentative in order to push public opinion even further in the desired direction.

If this is the research you are going to trust you might as well trust Kinsey or Freud.  Part of the technique of the Jєωs is to present something as a normal way of thinking and being when it's really not.  It is an extremely effective kind of peer pressure they use in films all the time.  They show you people behaving a certain way and make you think that everyone in real life behaves that way.  Soon many people really are, but only because they saw it in a film.  Like when they present a promiscuous female character and make her look like a barrel of laughs, women who watch this let go of whatever morals they have left because they now have an accepted role model.  It's just media persuasion, no big secret.

These polls are in themselves a big part of the propaganda as they can create a bandwagon effect.  People in general don't like to have views that are considered fringe or marginal.  Few are those who are immune to propaganda and peer-pressure and simply follow truth wherever it may lead.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

  • "Registered voters" doesn't mean anything. Half of these people won't vote. "Likely voters" is what you look for.

And if so many people are in favor of gαy marriage in CA, why did CA voters reject it when it went up for state wide vote? Why did the 9th circuit declare the ban unconstitutional, if they had any faith that the CA people would simply vote it in later?

I suspect liberal BS in this poll to put pressure on the Supreme Court not to overturn the 9th Circuit ruling. I think it's very likely propaganda.

  • According to Bernard Nathanson fake polls were often cooked up to promote legalizing abortion.

That may well be, but some of the most conservative states in the country have failed to pass abortion bans.

The people answering polls wanted Terry Schiavo dead.  The Congress turned on a dime when they found that out.  Heck, Father Cekada approved of it!

When you see articles in the Angelus publicizing "the letter of a Jєωιѕн businessman" defending the Novus Ordo in the sex abuse scandal, you really start to wonder what's going on.

  • According to that survey in 2008 it was 51% pro 42% against and 7% no opinion.  However Proposition 8 passed (in 2008) with 52% for and 47% against with 80% voter turnout.  Seems fishy.
